GQ RB30 Alternator

Post by luxbloke »

Hi Folks,

Have a 3.0ltr RB30 motor in the GQ...

Can anyone tell me the amp rating on the standard alternator that came on these motors?

Also perhaps suggest an alternator (I'm told the a commo VS/VT etc...) around the 100amp capacity that would suit or easily be moded to suit that motor?

Cheers
Matt

Genuine RB30 alternator is a fairly weak 60 amps.
A Bosch conversion from a VL commodore (new) bolts straight in ...and is about the same price as a new genuine one. However the bosch one is only 70 amps ...but they are all there and these alternators last well...are cheap to repair ...and can be stretched to higher outputs quite easily. My bosch conversion has no trouble charging the dual system..plus the third system for the camper..plus all the usual addons including 3 driving lights...fridge..compressor etc.
hope this helps.

Cheers Keith
