Blown 4 Rangie Diffs- What 2 do??

				Hello all. Great site.
I have blown up 4 diffs in the past 6 weeks(no doubt very hard thrashing) and know that I need diff lockers.
Question is which ones? Maxi drive, ARB,detroit or dare I say it sell the rangie and buy Nissan Patrol SWB
Could this be caused from a problem in the transfer case directing to much power to either front or back diffs at wrong time?
Any insight or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Detroit and Maxi axles down back.ARB or Maxi up front with Maxi axles, stubs and caps works.this set up works well and the Detroit is set and forget.no turning the thing off and on.to easy......

				modify your driving style!!!!
I doubt even Nissan stuff would stand up for long if you're doing so much damage so frequently, but there's no doubt they are stronger in the drivetrain, though not so good in other areas.

Toy conversion plus jacmac axles and locker. that way your running a stronger crown wheel and pinion.
Search it on here, heaps of info

I agree!!!!
WTF are you doing to be blowing up so many diffs?
Otherwise, Toyota conversion with Longfield 30/30 front and JacMac rear. If you break that...try another hobby.

Firstly, don't take this the wrong way, learn how to drive

Where you need to flog a Pootrol or 'Cruiser up a hill a Rangie with similar mods or even less should walk. Rangies have much better suspension geometry than a Toy/Nissan ever will. I've seen near stock Rangies with no diff locks walk up obstacles that more modified Nissan/Toys have struggled to make.
Lockers, the Toy conversions seem to be a popular one, search for more info on this. I run Maxi Drives both ends, whilts a great bit of gear they do cost a few $$$ to set up.
Happy trails, hopefully in one piece

Ditto,
I am changing to a Sals rear and fine spline front with Tru Tracs BEFORE I break one. So far I haven't broken anything ( except 3 autos, but thats another issue) and I'm USING it in low range etc, with 400Nm on tap.
BE GENTLE!!!!!

Pretty easy to blow a Rover 2 pinion diff. They are weakest part of the driveline.
Lockers fix this by having 4 pinions. Then the axles are the weak link. Then the cv's, then the crownwheel and pinion.
Lockers and decent axles will suit most Rover owners.

its not the maxi locker that breaks, its the rover cwp. hence toy swaps.

				Hi again
here's our combo - Jac Mac lockers front and rear (2400), Jac Mac axles front into Nissan GU CVs, modified stubs and thicker drive flanges (700), later model 24 spline rear axles (50 bucks from the wreckers), and pegged diffs front and rear (bit of time and some scrap materials) ...
33's much teenage trashing and so far nothing has broken....touch wood

				Hilux rear centre.
80 series, bundera, 100 series front high pinion.
80 hp front - 4.1 ratio
100 hp front - 4.3
bundera - 4.3 i think.
apparently 100 not as strong, apparently?
rear hilux - 4.1 out of 2 wheel drive utes (lsd about $100 more), i thnik you can other ratios out of anything (4x4 etc..)

100 series front are not as strong as 80 series front because they are 4.3:1.
I would expect the bundera 4.3 to be as strong/weak as the 100 series, it is just that the bundera is lighter. The problem is when reversing.
You need the high pinion front from a bundera, 80 or 100 series, to clear the rover track rod (tie rod). Hilux casting won't clear.
Macnamarra, doesn't use the high pinion, but their casting is made to clear the track rod.
