Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have had my car at Mitsubishi and they have just called me to tell me my Air flow meter is buggered - it will cost me over $800 to replace. Now my question is , does this sound about right or am i getting ripped off?

It kinda hurt when he told me that just after i had my fuel pump replaced for $600 and now i gotta do another thing just to get the car moving again.

Mate thats got hairs on it!. Air flow meter should not cost that much to install. Ring Mitsu and get a price for the part and work it from there. any mechanic should be able to install it.

That sounds about right for a genuine AFM. Someone is sure to make an aftermarkt one for about half that price. Try Petroject or automotive service solutions for a price. Mate you could install the thing yourself. They are easy as!

Ive got one of a 99 NL pajero that i can sell you, not sure if there the same but would be worth the inquirery.
Have they tested the thing properly and plugged in their diagnosis equipment? Haven't heard of many of these failing on the later engines.

Though i think i will look for another mechanic, took it home (they didn't repair it because they didnt have the part) it works fine now, no problems whatsoever.

I think it may have been a loose connection.

I'm pretty sure that Mitsubishi use a standard AFM for most of theit models. I've got two from a TR magna, which is the same as the pajero, eclipse and lancer unit. You're welcome to my spare if you like. I don't know how healthy they are though.

They're a bosch item, so it might pay to go and talk to repco and see if they can get it for you. Should be cheaper than mitsi.
