Clutch or Master Cylinder??

Symptoms:
Driving for 45 minutes in peak hour traffic, lots of stop starting, heaps of gear changes etc. By the time i get to the city and am stopped at a set of lights, Im finding it difficult to engage first gear. In some cases i have to slot it into 4th then make my way back to first. Taking off is fine so i doubt there is a problem with the clutch itself. Seems to happen after it heats up, e.g. 45 minutes of stop start traffic etc.

Note: Driving around locally short trips etc, i have no problems engaging first gear.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so whats the fix? I called Repco and they dont sell master or slave cylinders.

Help is appreciated.

Cheers,

i dunno if this has anything to do with it, but our ford sedan's clutch was not installed properly and we had to do the same, go back through the gears to get it into first, only on occasions. how long have you had the car for? and do you know if the clutch has been replaced at any time?

I would start at the basics check to see if there are no leaks, pedal adjusted properly, oil ok in gearbox, check to see if slave is moving properly, flush the fluid and bleed. I would start at these things first

change the gearbox oil !

will make a huge difference, you may have cooked the clutch fluid as well. so change that, if no improvement still make sure all lines are good and rebuild the m/c then if no improvement new clutch time
