You need to tell us a little more mate chances are it is your fuel sender but is it on duel fuel because mine is and its got the fuel tank on the right side of the car not at the rear i pulled my tank out to do some mods a while ago and i put the sender in wrong and it gets caught on the side of the tank so it doesn't work at all im just too lazy to take the tank out and fix it.If you still have the tank in the standard place under the carpet in the rear there is an inspection plate held in with four 10mm bolts pull it out and have a look very easy to do

Fuct fuel sender ......
Theres a single wire wraped around a non-conductive plate,
The wires are around 1/2 a mill apart,
There arm with the float has a hinge setup and on the opposite end from the float there's a contact that runs over the wire wraped around the non-conductive plate,
What happends is the wire wears & often breaks or becomes loose around the non-conductive plate, it then becomes a tangled mess and as the float rises/falls the readings are obviously all over the place.
Replace fuel sender and problem is solved.
Ive seen em that bad where they register full when full and 100Ks later suddenly drop to empty where they stay till the tanks refilled or the opposite where they read full untill ya run out !!!
Grab another sender and it will take you an easy couple of hours on a saturday arvo to replace the sender with plenty of drinkies time included.
