I am a fitter and turner by trade and do heaps of metal fabrication. I bought the ARB dual battery tray for my ute for $155 and can't believe what great value they are. Such an intricate, well made fabrication with all the attaching stock and allowances for re-mounting the relays etc as well as heavy duty battery clamps and powder coating is not even worth considering making your own. You will spend days making it from $50 worth of material when you could just go to work for half a day and pay for a professional job that will look great and last forever. As far as measurements go you should measure your batteries and make it to suit them. Use the same mounting bolt positions as the factory one and pick up a couple of extra existing bolt holes up the back.
