Hello all.
just a quick question that im sure u guys can answer quickly..
my brothers feroza is starting to run a bit rough...
i pulled off this hose to find it full of a black oily substance.
1. Is that normal
2. what does this hose do.
Is this a sysmptom of a blown head gasket?
Thanx all for your time.

Fatz,
It looks like you have just removed the breather hose from the rocker cover to the throttle body, this will get oil thrown into it by the moving cam shaft and rockers, etc below it. They use this method to plumb a breather so there is no place any water can get into the block during a water crossing which as you would guess, could be terminal.
In short, that is natural to get oil into that hose from the splash of the engine. But not heaps of it.
If your brothers Roza is running rough, I would recommend checking the vacuum lines (if it has them), base idle, timing. Else try a major service, oil, all filters, belts, valve clearance, spark plugs and leads.
This gets me out of trouble most of the time but I tend to go over the top and check everything.

Oil in the breater is normal ( unfortunately ) it gets everywhere and if you have done a few hundred thousand KM then it can block ports etc etc.
If a HD has been neglected the cylinder head and cam get heavily coated in oil gunge.
So its normal to fing oil / blowby in the throttle body, intake manifold , pipes , hoses etc - but it can cause issues.

I installed an oil catch can on my Rocky to stop this oil reaching the intake... I didn't like the idea of oil hitting a hot turbine

If it's running a little rough i would start off with replacing the spark plugs, leads and coil if they have any age on them.
