LPG question - Now with pics

I have just replaced a 3FE in my 80 series with a 350chev. I am wanting to hook the LPG up again and i was wondering if anyone knew if I could use the same converter as I had with the 3FE. The chev is a carbie version and I bought a mixer to hang off a snorkel. Can I simply put the gas hose from the existing converter to the new mixer?

Going from a 4 litre 3F to a 350 chev (5.7L) your regulator and mixer might not have enough throughput to feed it...

Be worth checking out.

If you have too small a converter for the mixer it can lean out at higher revs, which means lots of backfires, pre-ignition and holes in pistons.

Best of getting the right converter to match the mixer, even though your supposed to set it up the other way around.

Here are pics of the old converter (when it was a 3FE 4ltr) and also pics of the mixer which is your typical V8 mixer. Included are all text that is on each item.

that converter wont work with that mixer
im guessing your old setup was just a mixer ring

you need to get a b2 or L converter and then it will all work sweet

you also need a cap for the top of the mixer or you will never get it to run properly

I'll try n put this as simply as I can......

There are 2 types of converters......

type 1 is known as a SIMPLEX converter

type 2 is known as a COMPLEX converter

There are also 2 types of mixers .......

Type 1 is known as a COMPLEX mixer

type 2 is known as a SIMPLEX mixer

If you use a type 1 CONVERTER ( SIMPLEX )
then you MUST use a type 1 mixer ( COMPLEX )

If you use a type 2 CONVERTER ( COMPLEX )
then you MUST use a type 2 mixer ( SIMPLEX )

you CAN NOT use a COMPLEX converter with a COMPLEX mixer ( which is what you are trying to do !! )
It simply will not work !!!!

you CAN NOT use a SIMPLEX converter with a SIMPLEX mixer either....again it will NOT work.

The MIXER you have is a COMPLEX mixer so you need to fit a SIMPLEX converter up with it .......
OR
The Converter you have is a COMPLEX converter so you need to run a SIMPLEX mixer with it...... in this case it will be like a bbq gas ring

will all the current wiring work if i change to a B2 converter?

The only wiring should be a single power wire to the gas lockout valve.....

both the complex and simplex converters should be fitted with a gas lockout valve.

The only other wire that MAY be there is a "PRIME" button wire, this wire will supply power to a secondary lockout valve that when activated supplies a direct snort of LPG into either the inlet manifold or carby base via a hose, you will have a button or switch in the cab that "primes" the LPG system in this case, its generaly used for cold starting.... a 'choke' if you want to look at it that way !!

All other wiring should be related directly to the coil and "CARMCONTROL" which is nothing but a glorified relay switch anyway
if its a carbied motor then there will be a petrol lockout valve fitted too ( and a single wire for that valve is usual )....
( the petrol lockout valve is not needed on fuel injected systems as the pump is simply switched off when running on LPG )
