tuning gas and petrol

I got a 2F engine currently running on Petrol and Gas. At idle it is sitting at the 1200RPM for petrol and when you flick it over to gas its drops to approx 850RPM.
Whilst running on petrol and at idling revs, it seems to cut out/die whenever you put your foot down but is ok once the revs pick up. It runs fine on gas without any dramas whatsoever.
I have to go buy a timing light today to get it timed in right. Seems as if it's tuned in for gas and not petrol..... am I right or can you have the best of both worlds???
Any thoughts?????
Cheers.

how long has it been running on gas?
If you just run the car on gas mainly the fuel system will gum up and when you do need to run it on fuel it plays up you may need to pull the carbi of and strip it down to clean it and blow out the fuel lines

I used to have a dramatic differance between gas and petrol on my 4runner V6. I even put in a hand throttle adjust to compensate for it(never really worked properly). I have now found an excellent machenic and ever since he has been looking after my car, both fuels idle perfect (and it has never backfired).
I guess I am trying to say that it is in the tunning/setup.

if its a 2f engine it should be timed at 7deg for standard and 14 for gas and petrol or for gas only around 20deg works best. It sounds like you have problems with your vechiles carby though.

Well, tried the timing and couldn't get it right, sounds like it made it worse. Now when at idle if you put your foot to the floor it will die for about a second then give a bit of a back fire back into the air filter box before starting to rev up.

have you change the spark plugs to a heat range colder and closed the gap up to about 0.8mm. You should be running BP6EY NGK plugs for that motor. the other common problem is that you may have the wrong Ignition leads as gas needs special leads. The best i've heard about are called ICE leads made in std or melb.
