Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey all, just thought i'd share my exo building for anyone whos interested.
I have used 32 NB pipe and built off the sliders that are welded to the chassis using 7mm plate which wasnt strong enough. So we gusseted them using 10mm flat bar and now they are strong. The bends for the main hoops were done at local muffler shop and proved to be a PITA because they were roll bends. But once they were bent up we tacked them on and built from there.

Heres a pic of it so far.



I will be finishing the rest off this weekend. This is a paint version of what it will look like.

Looks good sanger, Its similar to one I did recently. If you do another one, I recommend using square tube (I used 50x50x4mm RHS) as the sliders as it doesnt dint as easily as tube, plus I find it easier to gussett but that may just be me.

Are you going to tie it in to the front bar or leave it as is?

Are you going to tie it in to the front bar or leave it as is?

Yes plan to tie the cage into my stinger to give it more a little more strength and also it provides protection for front guard. Still need ideas on how i can get more triangulation to make it stronger but cant come up with any ideas that will work with my soft top.

Post up ideas if you have built an exo before.

hed have to punch holes in the body to do that though

Has anyone put holes through the hardtop to triangulate like that? If so how did you seal it?

Mark i would but cant really see a way to. My b pillar hoop goes right up the middle of the body b pillar hoop ao id have to hole saw through the body. wanted an exo so i had room so would defeat the purpose if i put in an internal hoop in.

Just an idea, but what about running a 2nd hoop about 4-6 inches behind your current one, mounted off the horizontal bar thats attached to the b-pillar. You could then triangulate it like marks and easily tie it into the one already there. Would be farken strong.

v840: Not quite 100% on what your saying with the mounting of the 2nd hoop. could you do a paint diagram or something so i can visually see what you mean.

If its the same set up as i am thinking of i wouldnt be able to use my soft top or id have to chop the living bejebes out of it.

This was exactly what i was thinking of doing but its my daily driver so i need the soft top to be functional. Will do it later on when i get another car to drive round in. Thanks for the input its much appreciated.

I didn't realise the b-pillar was so far forward, my idea wouldn't work. It's pretty hard to triangulate it now without cutitng into the soft top or using a different type of soft top (with a ute style soft top it might be easier?)

Cheers mark only a rattle can job. Cost me $20 . Yea you can see why it was hard to figure out a way to triangulate. ill just wheel the piss out of it and if i need more strength i might use a ute type top and leave the back open.

What have you got across the roof, you could get a bit of triangulation there. No where near as strong but better then nothing.

Have talked to a guy who makes shade sails and he can modify my soft top by slicing and cutting holes similar to ute tonnuoe covers. $25 a hole so in total 4x25= $100 not to bad at all.

Can you make those bits bolt on for only when you are wheeling and the top is not as important.

Yes this is another option that i have. I will see what option i like when im fabing it. Things never turn out how i plan.

Just get Maria to knock you up a soft wall then you can do what ever you want with the arse of the cage like mine...


But with my old exo and when I used to run a full soft and fibre top, I had bolt on diagonal bracing that hooked behing the stock b-pillar, just bolt it on for offroad, I also had a diagonal brace across the windscreen which was similar...
