Gas Research Throttle body and B2 Converter?

hi

I have just put a deposit on a TB42 turbo kit and now it's getting custom made.

Kit comes with :

3" dump pipe
Screamer pipe (not sure what that does)
Blow off valve (Doesn't have a trumpet becuase they wear the turbo out or something)
Custom made Stainless tunned length manifold
All custom made stainless pipe work etc.
Braided lines
All nuts bolts and gaskets and a few other things that i may have forgot.

My question is the person that who is cutom making most of this and has done before has said that my carby and a Impco L converter won't be really up to the task when it comes to the turbo hitting boost.(10PSI).

He suggested a Gas research Gold Series Throttle body ( he said that the mixer is built into it or something not sure :? ) and the suggested a B2 converter with a primer.

Can anyone help me out what i should do either spend the money on the gas research stuff or is there a different brand or something i should be looking at or is my current gear fine?

Thanks alot

Cheers

Rick. :D

gas research is the shit, but there is some other good gear out. Man that motor is going to sound shit hot when it hits boost with the screamer pipe and the matched length manifold is cool  Make sure you post plenty of pics plz

alot of the commodore screamer pipes are just a piece of 3" pipe as the intake with a piece of fine mesh as the filter, i wouldnt recomend doing this without a pod filter at least

do u know what a screamer pipe does. It comes off the wastegate and when you hit boost lets exhaust gases out before the turbo stopping it boost up more. It is called a screamer pipe because when vented atmospheric, it screams but most are rerouted back into the exhaust a foot or so after the dump pipe

As GQ4.8coilcab pointed out the wastegate is in the exhaust manifold and allows boost control as the it opens when the set boost level is reached and allows the exhaust gas to bypass the turbine wheel)
Screamer pipe just means its dumping to atmo under fullboost ( so basically your running no exhaust under full boost) the other way is just plumbed back into your exhaust after the turbo.

As for prices on Gas research stuff it can get pretty expensive brand new, S400 mixex/trottle body is around $400 and a B2 converter will set you back about $180 or so, these were last time i checked which was a couple of years ago.

Thanks for explaining that becuase i had no idea even were a turbo mounted untill i started getting interested in buying one :D

Do you guys think getting gas research converter and throttle body will be worth it over my current converter and carby becuase forking out another $600 or so is a fair bit lol ..

Yep, do it with Gas Research setup. Too hard to have blow through setup with factory carb let alone any carb. Sell off your old stuff to help pay for new. When ordering the converter, ask for it to be fitted with fittings for a balance line. Tuning will be another expense. Hard to find someone competent in tuning GRA stuff.

I got quoted 500 for mine 3 inch straight through mandrel bends. u can go straight through because we on lpg. My guy said not to worry about a muffler lol.

Caloundra exhausts. I'd probably make sure if you go screamer pipe it gets re routed back into your exhaust. other wise its all venting exhaust into your engine bay.

The screamer pipe is just an external wastegate, Right?

You could try installing the turbo with your current system first and see how it goes. A few ppl have being using the impco system with no problems (not sure about carby though). You may just get it all set up and drive it for a while....then when u get used to the power and save some $$$ go out and buy the gas research system.

Not sure about prices on exhausts but i'm keeping my standard one for now untill i save up some more $$$. Yes it will restrict flow but i dont race my patrol!

the screamer pipe is attached to the external wastegate, buts its only called a screamer pipe when it dumps to atmo as under boost your pretty much running open pipes, hence the 'screamer' part!
In my pic above teh screamer pipe is just the bit of pipe hanging off my external wastegate.
The legal way and quieter way is to join the pipe back into the exhaust.
