If it's not one thing it's annother with my lux!!!!!!!!!

For a few months I have not had a working handbrake in the damm thing. I have new shoes and drums and adjusted the windy thing in the drums and the cable, but she only rarely holds (just barely) facing up hill.

Can I fit a tailshaft mounted h'brake, or stick with what i've got

Can someone please shead some light on the subject, she dosen't stop the best either.

Simple things first. I don't mind fixing things myself, but when it comes to brakes be careful. Maybe take it to a brake place. Stopmasters at Charlestown? Bleed the system?

I have had Argy tyres look at it ( I work next door) and midas looked at as well, couldn't see any thing wrong.

I've dealt with Argy Tyres before. Take it to a brake place.

Yes, they can be a bit relaxed on their work, but depends on who works on the car.

Are you sure you have adjusted the wheel on the back of the drum correctly? How many clicks on the hand brake lever is there?

Pretty sure, dhe drums are just starting to drag, with good pedal feel, but no h'brake and slow stopping untill you jump on it

Maybe m/c? Get a brake mob to check it out. Better safe than sorry when it comes to brakes.

Yeah, I was sort of looking into fitting an 80 series booster and m/cyl, but that still leaves the h'brake, I might have to resort to using bricks on string!!:(

could be a stretched cable?

does the handbrake lever come right to the top? Properly adjusted it should come about half way up.

last time my hand brake stoped working i got new shoes and had evrything adjusted and it worked fine. my new hiluix the handbrake stoped working when i left it on going up a steep snady hill i fogot it was on....hasnt worked scince but thats prolly coz the rear shoes are stuffed now. i hear those tailshaft brakes are quiet expensive?

It pulls out about 1/2 to 3/4 way out if you give it a really good tug (no pun intended!)
but the adjusting nut on the rat trap thing is wound right up

put your handbrake on and jump under your car to see how tight the cable is (do this on flat ground not on a hill).

Thanks shaddow, just did that. i had someone look underneath, both of the 'things' coming out of the drum attatched to the cable move freely, but i wouldn't say the cable is as tight as it probablu should be. Ill try to remedy this and see what happens.

i had a few handbrake issues at times..

1st was a siezed (maybe it was stretched not sure) cable.. replaced the entire cable run and still had issues

2nd issue was the things on the drum brakes that the cable attaches to were siezed due to mud n stuff.. so one I replaced them the handbrake worked good after that.. (got some replacements from the wreckers)

its amazing how good it feels to fix something thats been dodgy for so long.
and a working handbrake is teh shitznit too!

Get a new cable and new shoes, adjust the rear brakes very well and use minimal adjustment on the handbrake, the more adjustment on the handbrake gives you less leverage on the brake shoes.

New motor and clutch are sweet! A huge improvment over the old unit.

shoes are new but i have to wait till monday to chase a new cable.

de-adjust your handbrake cable then adjust brake shoes at drums see if that works Good Luck i had the saME problem see if that works
