Hi all,

I am wondering what sort of alternator I have on my FZJ105R GXL auto (4.5 petrol), and what its rated output is?

I would like to put a different (higher capacity than standard) alternator in, to power all the additional accessories I have installed.

Can I get a bigger capacity alt that will go in without modifications?

How much additional load on the engine does it place, for a larger capacity alternator?
I know the higher the load on the alternator the harder the motor has to work to turn it, but wondering if anyone knows real world examples etc.

Also, will a higher rated current alternator require a different dual battery setup?
I currently have a TJM IBS system with fairly heavy duty cables used.

Cheers

I think the 100 series altenator is about 100amp.

Any higher output altenator is only going to produce its hiher output at high revs.

Why do you want a higher capacity altenator in. Are you having problems?

Im sure there are aftermarket bolt in altenators out there, or you could have your current altenator reqound to produce more output at higher revs (unfortunately means less otput at lower revs).

The capacity of the altenator has little to do witht he load the altenator will place on the engine. It has to do with the load you place on the electrical system, which will be the same no matter what altenator you use, assuming both can provide the required current.

Altenator wont affect the dual battery system in any way.
