Mod Opinions wanted

Post by Drewski »

Hi Folks,

I'm currently putting together a list of "wants and needs" for my next lease car, to be an 07 D4D Hilux Dual Cab...

Currently thinking:

ARB Deluxe Winch Bar with fog inserts
Warn Winch - there is a new model out, so you don't need the control box on the top of the bar (apparently)
ARB side steps
ARB rear bar
Canopy (ARB or Alpha at this stage - jury is still out)
Rear Locker (I've been told the OEM LSD is good for about 40,000 km)
Lightforce 240's
Dual Batterys - Autron System
Cruise Control - Autron
Couplertec Anti-rust system

Now, I also have a question regarding tub lining... What do people thinkn about the Rhino Liners, and similar rubberised liners? I've heard that they last as long as plastic inserts, and leave you with more tub space... Any thoughts?

Also, was thinking DPChip, or DTronic, but have decided the money would be better spent getting a Berrima Diesel service, but suspect that may end up being a Berrima Diesel service, TaipanXP Exhaust and DPChip... :D

Cheers,

Andrew

DP chip is better cause you can tune it and with a taipan XP exhaust would be excelent. Also, if its a lease vehicle, forget about rust protection unless your going to keep it for 10 years

If its a lease truck, but the time you get all of the extras, and everything sorted it will be time to trade it in wont it??

why not a front locker?

I'm actually planning on doing a few years of decent offroad trips - Cape York being one of them, hence all the extras...

Plus, I've decided on diesel, for fuel economy and potential bio fuel opportunity...

Only the rear locker, as I've been told by quite a few places that the front diffs in the Hilux is ok, whereas the rear diffs are pretty average...

Only going by what three ARB stores, one TJM, and Guests down here in Melbourne have told me! They all reckoned the front diffs are fine, but the rears are crap...

I'm all for not spending where its not required, or for getting some more advice!!! :-)

Unless toyota have changed their diff centres you will find that the front is the weak link. An ARB locker would sort that right out ;)

when you get this lux out on the track, you will soon find out that both rear wheels stay on the ground, and one front lifts...thats why you need a front locker, so the one with traction can still drive. I would do that and leave the rear b4 doing the other way round. Even though the rear lsd is nothing to write home about, it is better and stronger than the front open diff. Get ARB in it....lol...thats probably why......ARB probably havnt made a locker for one yet....

Hi Dave,

have thought about it, but unsure if the extra weight with a full tank is offset not carrying as many jerry cans when touring
