clearance questions - 31"s

Hi
Hows it going everyone. Got my tyres today for my 1991 JX sierra, Motorway 30" mud terrains. Wicked looking tyre for the price, deeper tread than a BF goodrich. Anyway I thought i could fit a 30" tyre straight onto a standard sierra no probs.
Well I wacked one on and it looked like you couldnt run over a stick with out the tyres rubbing. I pulled the wheel off and sat it next to an old 31" that i have, The 30" motorway is a little bit taller than a 3/4 tread 31".
So what do i have to do to fit these. Places that i can see it rub are:
Front bumper
Standard flairs (they have a lip that curls underneath)
Havent put one on the back yet. So what should i do, get rid or modify the front bumper? Cut the curl off the bottom of the standard flairs, or remove them and fit some more straight flairs over the top of the existing flair mounting points.
My suspension is stock as a rock. My mate has 30"s on his sierra and all the mod he has is extended shackles and no bumper. But i think that still wouldnt work on mine.
Looks like a body lift is the go hey? Where or what do u use for your body lift blocks? I would rather buy a kit than make some up?
Please reply
I reall want to fit these tyres
Thanks Jason

The inner lip can be hammered flat, the rear should be Ok.
Have you considered a Body lift perhaps??
body lift

Yeah a body lift is what im thinking. Who has the best kit. Suzisport looks good.
The lip on the flairs that im talking about is at the ouboard edge of the flairs. If the lip was gone it would create more clearance. if you bashed it down wouldnt the paint on the flair crack, chip.

spring over is excessive for such a small tyre size
not to mention the cost
just get a body lift kit and call it good

Sorry there should be two lips (If yours is like mine both 91's)
The outer lip is the flare itself, the inner is the actual guard, bash the inner flat, the outer may need a trim down at the sill end (Back of the front flare and front of the rear flare in my case)
Not sure on where to get a body lift kit from, if I was installing one I'd just machine some blocks up with longer hi tensile bolts.
Steve
Thanks guys

Depends how ya go about it. On my old zook i retained original shocks and springs and re-used the original saddle blocks, worked perfect and cost me a pack of electrodes, a cutting disc and a grinding wheel.

but you are probably a fantastic builder wayne. not everyone can manage it on their own. i know i couldn't.
i don't think you could argue my point that a commercial body lift kit is safer than a homemade spoa. you would've seen some of the scary steering and dodgy welding that exists out there. not saying anything about your skills, or or jason's skills. but for what he wants right now, body lift is the easiest and safest solution imho.

Yep, you are going to need a body lift, and you will need to remove the bracket that holds the outside of the front bumper. This will look neatest if you cut if right back to be flush with the chassis rails.
If you want to keep your tyres looking their best (i.e. avoid cutting them), get a hammer out and flatten out every seam that is inside the tyre wells (front and back), and also tap flat the lips that you were refering to on the underside of the flare.
Sorry, can't recommend a brand of bodylift kit, mine was made by one of the guru's in the zook club down here
One thing to note: make sure you buy a kit that has body lift blocks that are legal to use in your state. i.e. there are kits made with plastic, aluminium, steel or billet - make sure you get one that you are allowed in your state.
Cheers
Edit: added some clarification

I used one of these without safety goggles once.. made sure I wasnt looking too hard at the cut from all the metal shavings flying everywhere, when I was nearly finished, had a quick look at what I was doing and BAM - right in the farking eye!
got a brown stain in my eye from the hot metal shaving that landed in it.. been there for 2 years
anyway, back to the original post..

There is nothing more beautiful than an eye with a rust stain in it.
