broke my rear air locker on the weekend doing the bumcrack at ormeau wasnt even trying that hard . broke the hat of the carrier and twisted the left axle splines, i thought ARB lockers were stronger than stock carriers, has anybody else had a similar problem with one

A mate of mine witha gu destroyed his entire diff assembly. Arb blamed the load put on the vehicle with 36' simexes and wouldnt warranty it! They said it was designed to work with a tyre size of 33' max.

yeah they told me the same thing but seriously if 35s are going to break the centre it must be on its limit with any tyre

they do that but can b fixed i have a factory diff loc will swap whole diff or i will buy it as is

The problem is actually a Nissan design flaw dating back a long time.
Toyotas and Nissans used to run the same carrier bearings up until the 80 Series Cruiser was released.
This was the 17887-17831
At this time Toyota switched to a new bearing (320101x) that had the same outside diameter but a larger inside diameter (50mm instead of 45mm).
The bearing they switched to not only granted the diffs a great deal more cross sectional strength in the castings between the axle bore and the bearing seat, but they were higher rated in radial thrust, which better served the newer, higher powered vehicles.

ARB has since discontinued all older Toyota model differentials (RD01 & RD02 for those who are aware of the part numbers) which now forces customers with older vehicles to upgrade their carrier bearings to the new rating.

Nissan has suffered occasional breakages in the castings on their own differentials when larger wheels are used (typically 35's or bigger).
They do not warranty this because they claim the larger tyres are the cause.
ARB's Air Locker is in fact made from a stronger casting alloy than the Nissan factory centers, but the extra traction awarded by the locking diff also means they are subjected to heavier loads.

We have however designed a heavy duty flange cap to suite ARB Air Lockers for all Nissan H233B model axles. It converts your Nissan locker so that it will use the newer Toyota carrier bearing, and your locker gets all the advantages mentioned above including more than double the standard strength through this casting cross section.

The part number is 020303 and we have sold the entire first batch of these to a hardcore comp driver named Rohan Canavan of Lilydale Victoria, who first commited to purchasing these for the competition Nissan drivers out there. Our part number for the Toyota type carrier bearing is 160116.

We will be making more, but generally only after Rohan has used up his stock.

thanks have ordered one of those carriers and see how that goes but with another 2.5mm of material in the coller it should be a lot stronger

He's a nice guy, a top competitor, and we asked him to purchase in volume to justify the design and programming hours, so he has the only caps in existence until his run out and we get significant orders to put through another run.

ended up buying a new air locker as all the gears and cross pins were worn out not bad for 14 months and 30000km (not) ill see how long this one lasts

did you think about buying the TJM pro locker?

yeah i did but i dont know much about them and it was easier to just put another ARB straight in
