Hi all
Is compressor hose ok to use as diff breather, I've read that some have used
garden hose so i thought compressor hose should be ok.
As that's my next project since i've drowned the Suzy 3 times now

That'll be fine, it's best to use something that is OK with oil which air hose should be. As it's a breather not much oil SHOULD go into anyway, unless you tend to onto your roof every often.

iv been thinkin about doin the mod.

how do u get the cap off the top of the diff. does it unscrew or just rip it off and stick on the hose with a cable tie ?

it seems loose as i thaguht it should be to let in the air. but didnt wanna just rip it off and break soemthing.

Thanx for the reply, the oil in the line was my concern.
So far i managed to avoid going onto the roof but almost onto one side a couple of times

It will pull off with some pliers.
Instead of using a cable tie use a hose clamp.

u guys make a small bracket ? then put little air filters on the top ?

rear diff breather instead of running 4m of hose to the bonnet just run it up through the big grommet around the fuel neck. i am doing that this arvo. cut out a small bit of the grommet and force the hose up and through. then put a cheapo fuel filter on the end with a hoseclamp. cable tie the hose so it doesnt flap about.
(dont cable tie it along the fuel line cos if the hose snags then it may rip out your fuel line :( )

For the air-filter on top I just cut up the cars old fuel filter there is a small paper element filter, like on glow-plug radio control cars. For hosing I'm using some sort of silicon based clear tubing (very soft and flexible), I have a fealing its like they use in hospitals? (Just used it because it was available).

i used air comp hose cos it is stuff durable and made to last (and it was free) i would be interested how long other materials last. eg. hoses etc.. i would assumethey would get brittle with age and crack/leak..

i got some clear water tubinmg from bunnings it comes in 3 meter lenghts. and i used a T piece from an irrigation set to join the front and rear diff so i only have 1 hose in the engine bay. i think it cost me $15 pretty cheap insurance for your diffs..

can u tell me how thick the pipe is mate ?

yeah 1/2 inch stuff and some hose clamps.

when i did mine i used some garden hose, fuel filter, copper t piece, 7 hose clamps, clear plastic hose

i had to get the clear plastic hose to sleeve the fuel filter as the differance between the hose and the fuel filter was to big

For just a bit more motovation for diff breathers.

I used to like playing in puddles and water crossings, though i never sought the need for diff breather's. Anyhow, coming home from a long trip on the weekend, i had shot both wheel bearings in the rear, blowing out the axle seal on the passenger side and spurting diff oil into the drum - causing me to lose brakes 100km/h down a large windy hill (not fun).

Whether or not the water escaped through the diff breather or through the axles is another question, but extending the breathers are cheap insurance - don't learn the way i did.
