A truck big enough to carry a 4x4 is to big to use as a daily driver. There for a truck becomes a deadicated tow rig. Can also be difficult to store when not being used, the list of againsts just goes on and on.
Using a Cruiser or patrol to tow with means the daily driver is also the tow rig, means its a dual purpose rig. So there for becomes ALOT more cost effective.
Look at my 80 series for eg.
it towes my hilux when needed
it takes my family away for family 4x4ing weekends away
it gets me to work and back and takes the wife shopping.
If I had a truck it would just sit in the shed between comps and add to the overall DIRECT cost of comping which is high enough as it is.
