just wondering if anyone knows of some good insurance companies who would insure modified 4x4s, and also is it possible to get 35x15.5inch tyres on 15x10inch rims for a toyota engineered?

Just got a call from TCIS and my insurance premium is just about to more than double.

8" width is the widest legally at all, and I think it may be 7" for the zook because they are so light. (NSW)

Try www.dgainsurance.com.au .

I recently swapped my Feroza to them because of hassles with mods. I've been told by one of their reps they will insure anything as long as it is legal (ie roadworthy) in your state. If you get everything engineered then they should insure it too.

Since taking out the policy I've Emailed them twice with new bits to be added (wider wheels and tyres, plus a stereo) and they always say " No problems...."

Have to be happy with that! :D

So does this mean you're going to get bigger tyres for the Feroza ??

Say some 31's ?? :D

Theres cheap insurance and cheap insurance.

Maybe paying a little more is a good thing... specially if you ever NEED THEM TO PAY!!

theres more threads on this around the net than on Modded 4b's

They are sending out a policy endorsement to me at the moment. ;)

My previous insurer certainly didn't say "Yes" to anything- that's why they're history. Wouldn't even approve extractors, and then pumped the policy up by over $200 at renewal time (rot in hell Western QBE :P )

i used dga for prev car, 84 hilux, and changed over for new cruiser. never had any trouble, tho never lodged claim, and reckon price alright for me. if you are running out of time, ring one company up, get quote and cover note, then shop around.

their price was ~$1300 the first time I called, then $1400+ the second...

More than double the price of unique car insurance (backed by Lloyds of London)

check the thread I had the other day, problems are DGA Market value unless you have car independantly valued.

ahaha i got denied by tcis

Luke,

Thank you for sending the information to us but unfortunately we are unable to provide a quote in this instance because of the loss of licence in the last 5 years & your age it does not meet the underwriter guidelines.

However I can suggest that you give Just Car's a call they should be able to provide a quote for you.

If you have any qny questions please don't hesitate to call me on 1800 633 745

You can get a quote online with Just Car, they Email you back later with the price etc.

I found them expensive, plus the excess was ridiculous and things that are standard with other companies were extra $$$ too.

I gotta say I'm darn near tempted to just drop back to 3rd party with fire&theift coverage...........But I recently renewed with TCIS....

I just thought I would add my experiences to this thread, as it is linked from the tech bible, and hence will be read by a fair few.

I have been doing all my insurance searching etc today. Been through pages and pages on here. Anyway, I am under 25, living in NSW. I only want third party property for my car. Comprehensive is out of reach financially.

Unique car does not do third party property.

Australian 4WD (dga) don't insure under 25.

TCIS 1800 633 745 were very very dubious in their response -- not keen to even discuss the body mods, and the lady said the spring over is way too high (?!?!). Still awaiting an email, but she said "We're probably not going to be able to help you".

Suncorp 131155 will insure the mods (i got the guy to double check) but they were a little bit expensive. They were good but expensive with a comprehensive quote i got with them a while back too.

Just cars 131326 seem to be the go....

Reasonable premium, and the excess (including age) is quite good. They will insure any number of mods, as long as they are roadworthy, and have certification for anything that requires it. I am having the paperwork mailed out so I can go over what was discussed on the phone, and check up on anything else.

So thats the story so far. i think i will go with Just Car. The lady on the phone knew exactly what I was talking about in relation to the mods, and guaranteed it would all be in writing and 100% firm.

As stated earlier, this is just in relation to third party property only.

does anyone know somewhere that will insure a 20 year old??? the only one ive found is the commonwealth bank and they will only give me 3rd party, no fire/ theft because the truck is currently uninsured.

Suncorp and Just Cars will if you have done stuff to the car -- mods and add-ons. See my prev post for details.

Depends what mods though. Describe ur vehicle and stuff.
