i went shopping today with the wife and i saw 10,000kg snatch strap. do you think it would be worth getting. as the other ones are 8.000kg the way i was thinking bigger is better. santa wants to buy me a new one. what do u think.

Snatch straps are usually rated at breaking strain, not Safe Working Load, therefore the rating isn't always a true indication of the quality of the product as some manufacturers under rate there straps and some over rate. There is no standard for snatch straps for the testing methods can alter from manufacturer to manufacturer.
In saying that, i've had cheaper ones that have way outlasted GOOD brand name and more costly ones.
I say go for it!!!

Aust 4wd monthly did a comparo on snatch straps a year or two ago and some of the cheapies were a good buy. Unfortunately some were also sh1t. They also discovered some of the expensive ones like ARB were not that good either. It was worth a read just to find out which brands to avoid.

i think tow2go snatch strap was one of the better ones, sold at supercheap. i'm sure it rated better than the arb one

i had a brand new arb one that snaped first go, not a difficult snatch either. i've got a couple of the supercheap ones and they work fine.

ive had a black rat strap that i have sued over and over and under large pulls and its still going, its a 9,000kg one

i got a 8,000kg arb snatch never had a problem with it lasted me awhile no marks no frays and had a hard life

yeah cheap ones may be good brand new... but throw it in a bog hole or two & let mud & grit get into the fibres, i have found they bust easy.
I use arb stuff as found it to be long lasting

i had an 10,000 from Repco (cant remember brand, the only brand they sell at my local shop), not to bad on price but only got about 20 HARD!!!!!! snache's out of it, dont get me wrong it was good, till i didn't wash it and it went crusty .

the one i have now i got from Aussie Disposels (cant spell) just a cheapy 8,000 ive done 15+ snaches and it hasn't freyed at all, but i clean it after every use.

i also have never washed my black rat strap and it covered in mud and has been for the last 6 months so that also says something about it

They actually soaked them underwater for a while first for the second stage of the testing.

As far as ARB goes... hey... you actually think they make their own? They admitted in the testing it's all outsourced. Having said that, after you've paid 50% more than many of the better straps, at least their warranty is good.

Strange ARB responded that way, considering most suppliers react that way if you show up from a magazine and say you have conclusive proof of how their product failed to live up to it's promises.....




There's only a couple of places that make them in Aus so you're generally buying based on the colour or the box or the dealer network anyway.


In the end the weak point is gonna be the stitching pretty much everytime so check that carefully.


Im using an OX currently... according to the 4wd monthly test IIRC it failed below its breaking strain but not by much, and it had about the highest stretch which I thought is better for both vehicles. I dont claim it's better or worse than anything out there on the market.


Have had good success with both TOW2GO and Just Straps before. I wouldnt be rushing to use the cheapie to do a tough recovery but it's good to have a backup strap.... just in case.

Dont write off Just Straps since they are the source of many other Brand name products in Aus.....



Strangely enough I've never had even the cheap and light 4500kg tow2go fail even pulling out heavy rigs... and I've probably had it about 4 - 5 years now. It's on reserve duty now and only comes out when a long recovery (10m) is needed. I certainly approach recoveries slower with it now than I used to as well...

I got one a cheap one a few years ago from Duncans 4x4 in Oakleigh. It was a white one with a 'Duncan's' tag on it, but you see 'em everywhere with whoever's tag/brand on 'em. Same strap, just re-badged.
Anyway i abused the crap out of this thing; heaps of hard snatches, rarely washed it even when muddy, and i towed a disco home about 60kms with it once. Mate, this thing survived about 4yrs of abuse before it snapped, and for around $60 i'm happy with that. I kept it and use it as a spare strap should i need to tie myself off to a tree or something when winching or as a tow rope. I now have a tow to go from supacheap which i've only used a few times but works good.

$60 for a 10000lb snatchie, BARGAIN

But when there is an advertisement including phone numbers for one said company right besides the results you begin to winder how much they have been paid by said company.
