Gas fitting - little problem

Got my gas kit fitted.... the actual gas conversion I think they've done a very neat job on,.

Couple of little problems....
Although I knew I'd lose a little offroad clearance on the tank, I didnt expect to lose THAT much ground clearance on the tank. I would have got a smaller one if I'd been told.

The other issue though is the exhaust.... have a look after the drive home on nice smooth ashphalt.

Can't quite tell from the photos, but just how close does the tyre actually get to that exhaust pipe?

Hmmm... I guess it depends on how much suspension flex you have.

But, on a flat surface, the exhaust runs less than an inch away from the tyre.

What size tank did you get, is it a D90N? I have never seen the exhuast done like that before, i have installed heaps of patrol gas kits, and just made sheilds for the exhuast, not completely moved it...........

agree take it back ours was put on gas a couple off weeks ago and no mods to the zorst where need and when you do go back tell them you actually use your 4x4 offroad ;)

I didnt even NEED to use the thing offroad before the exhaust has hit. Suffice to say, very pissed off with the exhaust people (not done in house at the gas conversion place).

But then again, they approved the mod with that exhaust in place so they're at least partially liable.

If they dont fix, they get outed.... it they do, all is cool. The rest of the gas conversion seems a really good job so I'm hoping they do the right thing.

It is supposed to be a 90 litre tank, so I'll see if I can find the exact model of tank.

Cant see the actual model of tank anywhere but the compliance plate is marked as 115 litres water so that's a 90 litre gas tank or close enough to it.

take it back to teh gas place and blow them up for it.

they can run the pipe close to the tank with a heatsheild, there is PLENTY of room there. that exhaust fitter should be SHOT!

That is a terrible job on the exaust!!

What are the rules regarding how close the exaust can run to the tank?? I just got my gas install done and i need to get the exaust moved. it really doesnt put much heat onto the tank though so im thinking i might not bother.

I just got a 140ltr tank fitted to the rear of my GQ. It is a dual cab though so more room to play with. Your tank hangs down a fair way. Do you have a body lift?

Dont mean to steal your thread but can someone tell me why i can only fill my lpg tank to between 1/2 and 3/4 on the tank guage?

I know the filler is supposed to cut out at 80% but this is obviously not 80%.

Is there a problem with my tank or is it the servo's filler that is the problem?

NO body lift..... Thats the standard D90N (115 litre 92 useable) tank on a SWB running 33's and 2" suspension lift.

Without a doubt if you're intending to keep your offroad performance SPECIFY that you want to run a smaller tank.....

I'd rather have to fill up a little more often than need another 2" lift to compensate for the LPG tank.

Well, as you know about the 80% fill limit, the other possibility is the tank guage is not properly configured.

You should have 2 guages... one on the tank and one in cab. Do they show large differences in how much gas is in the tank?

OK..... Gas place was shocked and exhaust place has promised to fix it.

We'll just call it an oversight and leave it at that. They may not have done a shorty GQ/Mav before and to be honest there isnt that much room under there to work with for the pipe.

If you're intending the same job on a Shorty I reccomend you dot he following:

1) Put your rear swaybar back on if you think you may ever use it or sell it
2) Show them exactly where to route the exhaust. Get them to use a heatshield if need be.
3) Get a slightly smaller tank

I'll take photos of it after it's fixed.

Paperwork is all submitted for the grant and apparently they're being processed really quickly - I may have the money back before XMAS.

Yes
The guage in the cab says between 3/4 and full.

The thing that shitted me was that i put $50 in and it cut out and wouldnt let me put in any more. When i put this $50 in the cab guage was showing red (empty).

I think $50 was 80 litres of gas from memory.
I am supposed to have close to 115 litres usable out of a 140ltr tank so surely it didnt have 35ltrs of gas in it and be on empty??

Whats controls the 80% fill??Is it a cutout on the tank or on the bowser??

the cut out is a valve in the tank that may be dodgy but sounds to me like the gauge inside you cap is not compatable with the sender take the inspecion cover off the tank and look at the gauge there it cant tell lies. but the electronc gauge things in the care are junk and cant be trusted i allways work the milage off the odo and if im getting close or im off road and blown econemy to shit i look at the gauge on the tank

The guage under the inspection plate on the tank is the one that is reading between 1/2 and 3/4 when the cutoff stops the filling.

It wont let me put in any more gas?

The cutoff valve could be too enthusiastic, or the guage on the tank could be buggered.

Sounds like gauges in cabin and tank are aligned.

well you can replace the gauge and if its still wrong you will need an afl valve

for those wondering.

From personal experience very recently, the Exhaust must be no less than 4cm away from the gas tank, and in some instances a heat shield must be used.

That was one shocking job....make sure they fix it gratis

It sounds to me that the tank has not been installed corectly. Some tanks need the valving set at 90deg to horizontal, and some at 60deg ( i think its 60 deg its been a while ). If its out alignment the AFL valve in the tank will cut in to early or late. It would just be a simple matter of undoing the tank retaining straps and rotating the tank up. I would take it to a LPG specialist and explain this to them and ask them to check it.

Do you run the tank as empty as you can?

They better.... they have promised to fix it... but if they try and charge me I will go off. Thats for the LPG and exhaust places to sort out.

The reason why they've tried to route it that way is cos that keeps it 100mm (4") away as the lpg place recommended without a heat shield.

As far as the valve thing... it depends on the tank... mine (installed yesterday) still needs to be 90 degrees.....

im pretty sure its 2" without a heatsheild, and you can have it closer with a heatsheild.

If your tank is NOT a bolt in job( welded brackets) it has to be rotated so the guage is furthur towards to top. this will allow you to pump in more gas.

i had forgot all about that all the tanks i have had anything to do with have been 90deg. but yeah if its mounted wrong it will cut off early or late

The sticker on the tank says 90% to horizontal.

Where exactly is 90% to horizontal??

If im looking at the tank from the rear the afl is dead smack in the middle of the tank.

Sort of like this... ( - )

Is this correct?

all the tanks are " supposed" to be 9as stated on the plate.

slide it up a little and see how much you can get in ;)
