fuel consumption guide

Looking to buy a 2nd hand 4by/AWD (read Toorak Tractor) for the missus and newborn. Probably an 03/04 mdl no more than about $50k. Only for road use.

Fuel consumption is of key importance when making final choice. Don't care whether it's diesel, petrol or dual fuel, as long as it's not going to cost the earth to run.

Does anyone know any links to true fuel consumption figures for a range of 4wd/awd vehicles post 2003?

True consumption figures need to be quoted by the manufacturer to a certain australian standard these days..... doesnt mean every driving style will achieve them in all traffice conditions but it should be a pretty accurate reflection.

Serious question here:

IF you plan to ONLY use it on road why do you want a 4wd? A 4wd will cost you way more to run and maintain than most other vehicles, (and you only need 3 seats it seems) and generally will provide substantially worse occupant protection despite the extra weight.

There are far better and far FAR FAR SAFER vehicles for your wife and kid for the money than any toorak tractor, which will also be far FAR FAR CHEAPER to run.

Do you intend to use it when it's older as your toy?
