Out here in Dubai, we seem to be getting quite a few GQs from Japan, some with winches on them. Found 2 from a couple of scrapyards.
I believe that the electric winches are Warn XD9000 version, looks a lot like this:
http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/src/XD9000.shtml
What I need to know is, were all the GQs from Japan 24V, if not anyway to check. Also what do I need to check on the winch if it worth picking up. The scrapyard owner has little clue what a winch and trust him at all, but then most of the scrapyards here are the same.
The price without negotiating is AUD 415, looking to get it to AUD 250, ro what do you think the price should be?
cheers,

I'm pretty sure all GQ's that were built in Japan are 24 volt, at least everyone I've seen has been. You will also probably find the winch is actually a Warn M8000, at least thats what mine was. If you can get one complete for around even $300 AUS I reckon you'd be doing pretty well. Not much to check for really, just make sure it hasn't been sitting in the weather full of water. you can pull the end off if you like to see the condition of the planetary gears etc.
Cheers, Jeff.

No not new, used and would require some re-conditioning. Have not seen one with the remote controls, probably require new wire or synthetic rope and probably some cleaning.
Ummm, dumb question perhaps, but I have a 12V GQ, and how would I get the two to work, would prefer to mod the winch to become a 12V.

If its 24v. Easiest way is to replace the motor with a 12v item. Theres a number of different brands that will fit. But I believe most of the warn elec motors will bolt up so that gives you 2.5hp, 4.6hp and 6hp (all 12v). There are also superduty brand. I havent seen them but the kiwi's and poms seem keen on them.

or run second alternator - 24v one.. and a 24v battery to hook up to your winch.

Thanks guys, will look into the price of a motor and controller first before I go and buy that winch, as the Warn dealer here is known to be a little expensive.
Cheers,
