TD 4.2 Help - Need Injector Pump Part # & Schematic
TD 4.2 Help - Need Injector Pump Part # & Schematic
Hi from Canada. My injection pump on my 1991 TD 4.2 Safari (Patrol) has started to leak. Just discovered the leak while changing the oil.
Looks like its coming from the timing adjustment plate but am not sure. I will have to take it in to a local diesel fuel injection place and may have them just rebuild the whole pump. Given what I have read, if one seal has gone the next are not far behind. Would like to give them all the info I can. I am looking for the injector pump brand, part number and schematic. If anyone can help me out it will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Bosch "VE" type injection pump. The one on the Nissan is made my Diesel Kikki i think... When you say the timing adjustment plate, i'm guessing that you mean where it bolts to the front timing case of the engine? There is a gasket there which keeps engine oil in--its more likely that its running down from the top part of the pump and forming in that spot. These Rotary type pumps are very common on European Diesel Engined cars--Older VW Golfs. Dont even think about trying to rebuild/take it apart yourself
Look up Bosch VE injection pump on net for more info..

Thanks for the info Nick. Actually I think it is coming from an access plate (pump timing adjustment plate?) at the end of the pump closets to the fire wall. I could not see anything running down from the top of the pump. I had a pretty good view from of the top and from fire wall side when I had the oil filters out yesterday. Today I will take off the rubber flap on the guard so I can get a better side view and get some numbers off of it. Some of the guys on Patrol 4X4 were very good about giving me good links. I would not dream of taking this pump apart myself. However if I find that it is just a seal, then I might have a go at it myself. The shop I have planned to take it to is a Bosche authorized service centre which comes recommended from a 4x4 Custom Builder friend. Apparently they are known for being honest in their work and pricing - a combination you don't find around here too much. Cheers,

May also be known as Zexel type pump. Made under licence from Bosch. Have you been using high percentage Biodiesel? Don`t know if low sulphur diesel is used in Japan as this can cause probs too. My truck like yours was an Import although mine came from Cyprus. Took me a while to get all the stuff sorted and up to scratch. Good luck

Thanks for the tips guys. I cleaned up around the pump and dumped 1/2 a bottle of lubricant into the tank. Since I cleaned it up I can not find any more drips. That has me a bit baffled, as it had been dripping enough to wet down everything underneath. Perhaps the lubricant works real fast? Tomorrow I will get a bottle of lubricant with seal conditioner in it. I will still have the pump seen to, as I can't risk the down time or the oil seal to the timing gears going. Alex, I have used Biodeisel in the past. The highest was B40 but usually it was a B30 or B20 I was running. I really liked how the truck ran on it. However, I stopped in mid Nov when it got cold, as it waxes up and plugs the filter. Cheers, John
Looking at the exploded diagram in my manual here, it shows a part on the bottom of the pump--just above the bracket that supports the rear of the pump to the engine mount--"Timer cover" Shows 2 cover plates (held in with 2 bolts) on both sides of pump. Looks like there are O rings located behind both..

Like I said, it has stopped leaking now. Unlike for most of the guys here on the forum, it is a bit of a problem to get seal kits here in Canada. I am sure the Bosch licensed fuel injection service shops have the correct seals. It is just that they don't like selling them without the labour. I spent almost 1/2 day last week looking for a 14 mm fitting for my auxilary Delphi filter. I am sure they had it but I was only able to buy it from a farm tractor parts dept. I put 1/2 bottle of the lubricant and seal conditioner in today. Although, as this link from another local fuel injection place says, it will not solve my problem: http://www.nwfuel.ca/ULSD.pdf. Maybe a tank of B5 or B10 will get the seals to swell a bit more. First I have to install the Delphi filter, as I can't keep on paying for new Nissan ones. I just hope the pump stays dry until after Christmas.
