Hey guys i know these more than likely have bben answered but i cant seem to find any of the answers i want through the search option.
All i want to know is
-If i buy a std 80 series diesel how many kms are they good for??
-do they take a turbo well??
-What size coils do i have to put on to run 35/12.5r15's and can i get away without a body lift.
- Will this setup be an okay tourer?? And pull a 2t van with relative ease or will it put too much strain pn the engine??
-Am i better off chasing a std turbo diesel or put on an aftermarket??
Appreciate all answers given..

Hi
The std will tow all day every day, but may be a little slow for your liking....the T/D will do it easier...alot easier...and with better economy....but they need more maintenance....300000kms is about the time things start wearing out....500 + is acceptable as the body never wears out....and mechanicals can be refurbished.

2k for the motor, 2k for the pump...easy to find in the wreckers these days. 2500 will buy you a runner.
The 1hz will take a turbo ok
After Market Turbos on HZJs

I run an 1994 80 with an after market turbo, 35s on 6 inch lift, no body lift, no sway bars. My motor is going fine, but when I got it was not so good, had it tuned properly by QDAD in Brissy, made a big diverence. Basically it is like a washing machine (so the mother inlaw calls it) on road, but what do you expect.
One thing I have only just leant is that you need to be a little careful putting a Turbo on HZJ motor espically if you do heavy towing with it. My Father has 2001 HZJ79 series with an after market turbo, $180K kms and tows a 3.5 t Bush Tracker Caravan and has recently discovered he has stuffed pistons and possibly a a stuffed head. It still drives for now.....
In reseaching the story behind this he found out that this is not unusual for people in his situation (aftermarket turbo & big loads). Apart from installing another motor such as a factory turbo or V8 Diesel ($$$) he can rebuild his motor using aftermarket pistons designed for a turbo engine and HD Conrods, etc at a price up to $4k (includes recon head) plus installation.
I am not saying this will happen to all motors, most of it depends on the boost you run, how well tuned it is and what you do with it.
Hope this helps,
Stinger
