What is the hand brake like on the supra's?

I am serching google atm - trying to find a pic

But does anyone know where the hand brake pulls from ? or wether it is on the tail shaft etc

I beleive it is inside the disk rotor like a Patrol or a 75series or even a commodore.

by the sounds of it they might work

yes - have been for a while - my exhaust atm would hinder with a tailshaft hand brake so i am trying to find a toyota caliper which will work 8)

i think that www.frontrangeoffroad.com use a supra caliper 4 there fullfloater and rear disk conversion

saw that two - will have to find a supra and have a look

i was gunna use a similar setup on mine but just use front lux calipers and then put on a transfer handbrake

exactly what i was going to do till no t-case brake easily

Keep us posted! Richard will have lux caliper mounts for the rear shortly. Don't know about price though. Plus you have the extra expense of the handbrake. Would be cool if it could all be done at once.

Umm guys...if you are interested, i have a complete Supra rear IFS cradle sitting in my backyard...and i mean COMPLETE

they run a drum brake in side the disk rotor for the hand brake - rendering them useless from my application

There is one version of supra calipers that are lever operated and act on the rotor not drum. Only available in japan but i think.

Hmm that must be what the US guys use

i have scrapped this idea already

new one is - modifiy exhaust for a disk caliper - then pajero rotors with hilux 2 spot calipers

You can use Subaru front calipers or Mitsi Gallant rears they both have hand brakes. I am getting a laser cut bracket for the Gallant ones which fit pertectly over hilux disks.

You guys in NZ should be able to get hold of the early pajero rear disks and calipers as well.This is what i am running on the rear and it is almost a bolt on conversion.But they are as rare as the proverbial over here. Nick just imported some from NZ to do his conversion.

How well does the hand brake work on your setup

i stopped in at Auto Brake Service today asking about rear disks - he said hand brake on the calipers will not work well on a 4wd - is he talking shit

it cost about 400 for all the parts, i bought them brand new and got 2 disc, 2 calipers and 2 sets of pads, they are available over the counter from most auto stores. the reason i bought new was the fact that it only cost about 60 more.

i was looking at the discs today and they are made in australia, by who i am not sure but the part number is RDA238 as someone might know of the referance numbers?

MINTEX brand pads are what i have and they are made in the UK and the number is MDA1352AF

i have herd of a ea-ed falcon rear caliper beeing used
the magna rear calipers are also easly mad to fit but the hand brake mech is also prone to siezing in the clean tarmac conditions so i would not like to trust them in the bush (mud)

I've heard of someone using a custom Motorbike rotor for the handbrake setup. Doe anyone else know of that?

I have found XF callipers are very versitile and pretty chep. They have a mechanical hand brake in them and work on a self adjusting ratchet system. You shoudl be able to modify the XF bracket to work as well.

This is what we use on the buggies.

Solid rotors from the front of a early hilux, just buy them new, About $100 if my memory is correct.
Subaru front caliplers, about $90 for a pair from a wreckers.
Then have a bracket cut out of 10mm flat.
4 spacers, these line the calipers up on the rotors.

For the handbreak you will only need to remove the bracket off the caliper and turn it 90 degs then tac weld it back on.

Machine a little of the flange on the end of the axle and a little bit out of the middel of the rotor.

It all bolts up and is easily engineerable.

This is what I have on mine.
The only other thing to do is change the master cylinder to an 80 series one. Doing this bit will give you back a hand pedal, not doing this bit the pedal will fell very spoungy for the first half of movement.

dont wanna bet cplux 2 it but this is wot he uses and he has adapted the caliper mount 2 suit and it is a very good looking setup, easy and works gr8
