hey,
the 7MGTE in my lux developed a nasty rattle on the weekend, so i am considering swapping it for a 2jzgte rather than re-building.
question is has anyone done it, does it fit? i will be using the auto behind it aswell.
anyone got any pics?

A mate of mine has it done but it's in a 2wd (should be close if not same) it fits but very! neatly he said it's got about 10mm to firewall and the same from front of eng to rad. He couldn't fit it in with clutch assy and flywheel had to all go on from underneath don't see him very often if i do i'll get some pic's.

yeah i thought it would be close, my 7MGTE is only bout 10mm from firewall but my radiator is going in the back so thats no issue. my main concern would be clearance between the brake booster and the rear turbo.
pics would be great.

mate of mine did it in a hilux with twin up graded turbos. ring buzz engines on 07 32833722 as they were the ones that did it they should be able to point you in the right direction. it made 350hp at the wheels on 11psi

Having played with Supras for years, when I heard a Hilux pull up with what was definitely a JZ motor I couldn't help but go up & talk to the owner. Was a fairly late 4WD model running a 2JZGTE with standard turbos and an auto box. Quizzed him on the fitment and he didn't know as it was done by the previous owner... but it definitely goes in.
If you have problems with the clutch/brake cylinder you could try swapping for a more compact unit... or if you've ever looked in a van you'll notice that they run a reversed pedal/cylinder arrangement with a flat booster which might well allow you to run them under the dash on your Hilux in a similar configuration.
Might be tricky to adapt but once done would give a great result & heaps more room in the engine bay.
