Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Ive been going through some old posts researching a 1300 head on a 1600. Ive spoke to someone that did this and they were very impressed, heaps more torque. Im after more torque down low for better off road ability and uphill on road. Has anyone had experience with this and what are the pros and cons vs 1600 head etc. My 1300 was rebuilt recently and I have a webber and extactors on it.

I threw a Sierra head on my old Vitara G16A motor when I did it up. I'm sure the compression had to lift as a resulty of the smaller combustion chamber. It did go quite well, but I can't say I noticed a monumental lift in performance.

Certainly easily done if you have one lating around. Everything bolts straight up, except the fuel pump. The open section in the centre of the fuel pump aperture is a different shape between the two heads. The result is a nasty old leak if you use the wrong pump.

Thanks Adam. So there was no noticable change in power? As long as there wasnt less thats a start I supose.

IMHO (others will disagree)

I put a 1300 head on my 1600 as well .. kept 1300 intake valves, but put in 1600 exhaust valves and did a cam regrind and port job all in one hit .. I loved that little motor .. it was quite torquey for a 1600.

The theory is that the smaller intake valve valve creates better (faster) air velocities giving better fuel atomisation so you get more bang out of it .. I did the bigger exhaust valve to get rid of the spent charge quicker .. Did not cost alot to do (was not much more than just a plain old valve regrind)

Theoretically, a GTI head should fit as well, because the single cam and twin cam blocks are the same, HOWEVER, you will need twin cam pistons due to the different valve pattern recesses required.

If you don't get the twin cam pistons, your valves will probably hit the pistons, and then you're in trouble...

I'm sure there will be heaps of people here to let you know about the twin cam head option.

Thanks for the replies. So the 1300 head goes better than the 1600?
I think I,ll probably go that way because it will fit under the bonnet and should be cheaper too get just the 1600 block and sump if I dont need the rest.

So what else from the 1.3 will fit the 1.6?

You beat me too that question. When I got a price of a vit motor for the swap they said I would need the lot for the conversion and wanted nine hundred bucks, but im sure some if not all accessorys can be changed over? Is that correct?

yes it would be...'

interesting because the crank has no space to rotate or the rods are longer than the block. The g16 is physically bigger to accomidate the bigger stroke

So the crank couldn’t fit even if the block gets relived wherever the crank may hit?

I can understand with the rods.

hey do it, prove ppl wrong but i'd be suprised if you could get rods and pistons that wouldn't pop out after a stroke even when it's relieved
