Looking good mate but there going to be bloody heavey. Iv started to make some for my 80 series just have to work up some motivation to do some more to them. The drivers side its a bitch to make mounts for becasue of the exhaust.

nice work guys, though i have to say the design looks familiar :D ,

how are u going making the fron mount wrap around the exhoust?

I think your really onto something, steel toe double plugs everyone should have a set :D they do look a bit heavy but it's low to ground so i don't recon it's a bad thing. Wish my steps were heavier some days it might have made some situations a bit better

we should hopefully have the mounts done today, for one side at least

once we make the mounts we are going to copy them to paper so then i can start my set in a few weeks

design is familiar known2, but ours are a little cheaper to build ^_^

here is waht i got done today not a lot i drilled most of the brackets and cut mounted one up with 2 brackets as u can see from the pics
Image
here is one with the jack lifting up the car with 2 brackets done
Image
all i got to do nowis finish off the 2 brackts on the passenger side and start the drivers side ps.. im sick of lifting them around so heavy but strong :D what ya think

Posted: Thu Dec 21, 2006 7:13 pm
by guerd87
these things are unbeleivably strong

lifted the whole side of the car off the ground with 2 brackets straight off welding bench, thats with no bracket triangle supports in yet ^_^

the other 2 brackets and supports will be finished tomorrow and then the fun part...drivers side and exhaust :)

in my set i think we will prob go the next guage down for the 75 x 50 RHS to keep the weight down, same guage tubing and brackets though

Nice work  They look heavy. What size box are you using and are they welded or bolted to the chassis?
Sliders are my next project, am going to use 50x50x4mm box and maybe tube on the outside for a step.

Why the 2 peices of box welded together?

slider/step is 2 x 75mm x 50mm RHS welded together

reason for 2 bits together: so they act a side step aswell as a slider, tube sliders are that, sliders, not a comfy step etc etc

brackets are 50 x 50 square welded to 50 x 10mm flat plate, which has anotherpiece of flat on the opposite side of chassis with bolts holding them on :)

hope that helps ya :)

im thinking they will be at least 60kg's all up once both finished, maybe more???

still have checkerplateto puton thetop side fo the steps

then we have the rear bar, will definatly need that intercooler and wind the boost + fuel up a bit ^_^

by scottmcguinness172
yea they wouldnt want to be goin anywere in a hurry yes the boost will have to be wound up a little soon ill be able to drive over the pootrols now with out damaging the sills ill have to test them out soon see if i can rip them off :D im thinking of doing side bars aswell then starting the rear bar

When they are finished make sure you weigh them and let everyone know.

yea i will there getting friggen heavy now

Posted: Fri Dec 22, 2006 2:03 pm

i think being solid and heavy is the way to go for big crusiers and patrols.

60 kgs is not bad at all... and the weight is all down low which is a bonus to improving the COG

They don't hold up to a grinder though. I was cutting away with a 4" and it kicked and i lost grip. It fell out of my hand, hit the concrete and bounced, cut my knee, bounced again, and then cut my foot taking out the thong with it

A valuable lesson was taken from this, that safety is paramount when working with metal, make sure your grinder has a deadman switch
