Time for a new Paj

Its been a couple years since I left the paj scene.... But time to get another.

I have been looking a NH/NJ Swb pajs with around 200K on the clocks. What should I be looking out for? Or a better question might be, What has detoriated in the first 200,000 on your own paj?

I know on my last one that I replaced just about everything over the 300,000km life, however I wheeled it just about every fortnight and drove it hard from day one. So its hard for me to get a guage for the weaker items or areas prone to wearing out.

I also cannot believe how the market has fallen on the price of the things. They are as cheap as chips nowadays much to my amazement...

Thanks guys.

1994 Dohc.

Clutch on a manual 3.5 SWB (slipping at 80 000k)
Idle stepper motor (wouldn't idle)
Rocker cover gaskets DOHC (started oil hemorage)
Lower Ball joints (full of muck, wobbly)
Air solinoid for front diff disconnect (flashing light syndrome).

otherwise normal running costs -cam belt, upper A arm bushes, brake pads etc.

Current milage stands at 97000k.

Hi Grant - it will be good to have you back. :D

1994 3.0 V6 manual. Currently approaching 150k km.

Air con failed during warranty - crap intermittently blocking the TX valves, needed to run for 30 mins plus before problem became apparent.
Gearchange is notchy, particularly when cold - the recommended Castrol synthetic didn't make a noticeable difference.
Clutch went somewhere around 120k km.
Recently had pitman arm and idler arm replaced, trying to isolate a wheel alignment problem - didn't make a difference.
Recent oil leak from rocker cover gaskets - could smell oil burning on the exhaust after a drive. The gaskets were rock hard over the exhaust ports.

As with NJV6, normal servicing at recommended intervals.

Cheers,

Scott

1996 NJ 3.5L DOHC Manual

Uni-joints in rear tail shaft shot @ 190'ish thou
Inclometer leaking @ 210 thou
Slight creek in cargo area plastics
Slight notchy box when really cold, but no one likes a loose box :D

Otherwise normal servicing every 5 thou... perfect 4by, no dramas with this puppy

south, where did you source your unis from? I have previously used genuine ones. Now I have got some aftermarket part nos., but no one seems to have any in stock.

Pharb, Sorry I don't know, the mrs old man is a mechanic, he sourced them from some truck supplier though, as the first lot purchased from a car spares shop were totally wrong.

Thanks guys. Looks like it was a blue 92 swb that has made it to the driveway. At the price it was I can afford to replace pretty much most of it as well as the planned mods.

When I pull finger out i will start the build up thread.

Should be something along the lines of:

ARB winchbar
Spots
UHF
2" suspension
2" body
33's
front and rear airlockers
sliders

Maybe something engine wise??

FOr upper a-arm bushings i'd go with super pro poly bushings

poly = onroad handling improvements
rubber = offroad flex improvements

X2 with South, however the A arms can deform when pressing bushs in and out

Here is an update.

So far I have done:

Suspension lift inc springs, shocks, torsion bars and bushes.
Arb bar
Lightforce 240's
UHF
DoofDoof stereo
33's
Front arb locker
snorkel

Still to come

Body lift
Sliders
Rear locker

Havent had the time to bother with it much lately so am getting tings done a lot slower than first thought.

Tyres are 33/12.5/15. They seem to be an allright tyre but havent given them a workout yet. They scrub at full artic but the body lift will fix that.

Looks very  . Not as flash as your NL, but probably more "serious." I think the NL was too shiny.

Out of interest, what wheels (offset) are you running and where are they scrubbing? Some people don't seem to need a body lift for 33s...

iv got none, and i doubt my lift is 2" anymore, same tyres, dunno about rims, and they dont scrub anywhere. Dont really look like cruiser offset though, prob patrol??? probabaly more sensible going patrol, but yeh mine work alright. Iv got the blocks sitting in the garage if i need them, but at the moment the only reason id put them in is for clearence of a bigger petrol tank.
