40 and 60 series diff centres

just wondering if the ratios of 40 series and 60 series diff centres are the same, and will 40's centres fit in 60's housings.
and if its a stupid question, Sorry.

40 centres have a course spline on the pinon flange.
60's have a fine spline. (been told it was stronger)
both are interchangeable housings.

Only the early 40's have the coarse spline, up to about '79 i think. The later 40's are identicle. All are interchangeable though.
