A mate was was trying to be flogged of this to swap for a auto locker. Auto was brand new and this was not so new.
A mate from arb had a look and does not look like a ARB unit as they are now but maybe a older unit. Fits hilux and landcruiser small diff.

Thanks

Looks like an ARB to me. Although, could be a different type of airlocker?

Early arb, I've got the same one.
Looks like the pinion's been rubbing on that one big time

Your mate from ARB should prob open an ARB Airlocker box and take a look at one some day. Because they still look the same today. There are some small differences like the air bulk head but mostly all look the same.
That looks to be a Roberts locker. Pre ARB Although could be the first RD01 ARB released. Still the same design though as ARB Bought this design. It only has 4 bolts holding the locker together. Im pretty sure when ARB took these on they increased it to 8 or 10 bolts as they were prone to come loose or even break with only 4. Also the cross shafts are prone to breaking in this model. Not only does it look like the pinion had a feed(although this is never an issue) but in the first picture it looks like the side gear has been run dry and scored the side carrier plate. It also looks like it has a lot of metal in the oil.
This particular model is a weak design although in a stock vehicle with a locker it would prob never fail.
Why is someone trying to swap an air locker for an Auto? Sounds like this Airlocker has issues?

Thanks Ruff.
Yeh thats the main difference that we picked up was the amount of bolts.
The air locker was in a toyo sprinter drift car with a shortned hilux diff in back, he wants a Detroit LSD instead and thats what a mate had. other issue other than the pinion is where the air line runs there is a notch in there.
Not going into a stock vehicle (75 ute, 6.2TD,35' mt117,detroit rear)
He did not end up swapping it, keeping the detroit LSD. We mainly wanted to know what age it was looking like. I was thinking early arb or other.
