Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Gday all,
Just wanted to know weather anyones herd much about the Pirelli Scorpion Mud Tires. Or if anyone has them let me know what you think of them ( good and bad sides) as im looking at buying them.. any ruff estamite in price?

Erm, why buy something no-one else does? Ok, it can be cool to be different but usually there is a f*cking good reason.

I would like to recommend them as I had them as my second set of tyres for weekend trips but-

I found they had excellent traction on the bitumen wet or dry.
They were very noisy as they seem to have larger void areas then BFG etc.
They had fantastic traction in the bush on all surfaces.
I removed them when only partly worn as when I went to fit them for a trip I found that the casings on all tyres were damaged with large cuts deep into the rubber.
There were some tread blocks which were tearing and had chunks out of them.
When I showed them to a tyre company they said it was someting to do with the rubber compound that caused that.
I bought new MTR,s which have had none of the above problems on the same types of trips.
The Pirellis were very wide and rubbed on the guards where the same size MTR's dont .

I got the Pirelli tyres at a really good price as I wanted Khumos that were on special for $175 each at the time. The Khumhos were out of stock in Vic due to the special price and I was offered the Pirelli tyres at the same price.
I would suggest that you look at other brands.

oh ok, i herd that they wernt too crash hot, just thought id ask. Now that i no that you think the gy wrangler mtr's arnt too bad aye? Some ppl say they are week in the sidewalls or sumshit like that but they talk from comp point of view. What size mtr do you have n how much did they set ya back? Thanks m8

My guess is the morons at bob jane who are trying to sucker you into buying pirellis

I am using a very conservative 10.5 x 31 size. they are fine for the Alpine trips I like doing. I have been very happy with the mtr,s. Cant remember the cost but Goodyear had a special deal at the 4wd show a couple of years back and I got them for around $225 each from memory.
Tyres are hard to recommend because a tyre that is really good on one vehicle may not suit another make/model or the type of use it is being bought for. I would talk to others with the same vehicle and see what they are running and what size etc. So far I have only heard good reports about mtr,s on a range of vehicles.

Nah m8 just some others that are on here.. Im sure they are talking about goin crazy on them but i no tons of ppl that run them, fella i no got a 80 series chopped with 37" mtrs on it n he swears by them. Im gonna go that way, with the mtrs, i have the goodyear atr's atm and have no probs.. suck in mud but! Do you have them chops? What do they wear like on the road amtravic? Cheers guys.

I have 33 MTRs as my road tyres, they wear fine, road and offroad

the biggest key to well wearing tyres is TYRE MAINTENANCE, and that's entirely up to the owner..

it's exactly the same as checking your water/oil - neglect your vehicle and it will show.
