okayn need hel with some measurments from the gearbox of a gu td42, if anyone has them it would be much appreciated,
now i am after the bellhousing length, there is also a spacer according the the book that mounts between the bellhousing and the motor,
also need the length of the input shaft from the input shaft seal to the tip,
or does anyone know the exact differences between the GU TD42 and a GQ TD42 gear box, casue at the moment, ive come to a hault with an engine conversion,

I was told they are a straight swap..

Where does spacer go??
So what your saying is, the GQ Auto wouldnt be a straight sway with GU manual possibly?

according to the pictures in the the GQ andGU manuals, there looks to be a 30mm to 50mm spacer that mounts between the bellhousing and the motor, but what i would like to find out is, if the input shaft is longer as i assumer it would be,
casue we mounted a late model GQ TD42 and box into my old mans GU and the sifter is sitting under the floor, andneeds to be pushed back,
if you want to auto the GU, you may need to use the spacer off your manual box on your auto, but as i say, at this stage i am not sure on the g/box input shafts,
its my mission today to find the differences and ill let yas know,

yeah it seems as thou looking apics in the manuals, that there is a 30-50mm spacers that mounts between the bellhousing and the engine, im assuming this would mean that the input shaft is longer,
as for the auto conversion using a GQ box, i would say it is more possible, as i think the gq auto uses linkages, so you could mod these to suit, but im not 100% sure, how easy it would be
you might be bette roff using an auto from a gu motor, not sure how much extra wiring there would be but hey, its all possible,
ps. just got off the phone from a wreaker and he says that he is fairly sure there is a spacer in there, and the input shaft is longer, but not to quote him on it, as he doesnt have the 2 there to compare,

okay, i just found out the details that some may be interested in,
now what i was saying about the spacer on the gear box is actually true, but it was only ever fitted to the ZD30 patrols,
also, enyone looking at an engine conversion from a 2.8 GU to a4.2GU, the gearbox crossmembers are different, where the rubber gearbox mounts bolt to, are actually further back by approx 30-40mm so when doing the gearbox swap its wise to get the crossmember to suit the GU TD42 box,
also, the sifter locations when comparing the GQ TD42 and the GU TD42 there is approx 50mm between them, the GU shifter location is actually 50mm further towards the rear of the gearbox, and also the overall height of the GU box is less than the GQ box,
in saying this Bogged, not sure on the height of the GQ auto, but you may be able to mount it up, depending on the shifter and they height of the auto box,

also, the spacer on the ZD30 is actually fitted to clear the dual mass flywheel, and also on the RD28 box as well, is to clear the duel mass flywheel,
