drilling leaf springs

i have picked up some xd falcon leaf springs to use on the rear of my hilux, but i need to reposition the centre pin. just wanted to know what is the easiest way to drill through the leaves?

I'd take them to a spring manufacturer and get them because you will go through some bits trying to drill them. :wink:

totally agree, i drilled through my old rear springs and trashed about 15 drills including 2 tri-nite (or whatever its called) ones

You can drill them, run the drill as slow as you can go and plenty of coolant, and slow feed rate if your having real problems with that try putting a pilot hole trough first.

If you can't handle it any machine shop should be able to drill them for you.

did 14 leaves, in about 10 minutes

stick them on a dril press (individually)

and tear it up, go easy, lots of coolant 8)
hands and mums dont count!!!

i found a way that worked real well, i used a masonary bit with the tip grinded into more of point, did 10 leaves and only trashed 2 bits and that was with a fairly quick drill speed (i only have a cheapo press that doesnt go real slow)
