Hello all,

my question is this - what are the benefits of having bluetooth and wifi on a PDA GPS unit.

I want a PDA to use for GPS [rather than a stand alone GPS unit as i have more choice for what software to use] but don't know whether or not i'll need bluetooth or wifi - hence my question.

Just a PDA or a PDA phone ? I use my HTC Magician as PDA phone and GPS navigation system with a bluetooth GPS mouse. The bluetooth comes handy when you want to use a handsfree for the phone. You can even connect to a printer and print out whatever you want to. WiFi is great when you use VoIP phone service and use Skype for free calls.

Thanks for your reply as that's helpful. As for my use I just need the PDA. I'm not good with phones and given what you've said, I don't think i'll need the wifi thing either.

Depends on your GPS receiver...

I run a PDA unit with the Garmin GPS10 - it's a bluetooth GPS unit, so the PDA needs to be bluetooth if you want to use it without cables etc. In saying that, I still run a cable for charging the battery in it from the PDA mount.

The PDA comes in useful for me in other areas too though, so bluetooth and wifi are essential for checking e-mail etc when travelling in some hotels etc. Can also pick up on neighbours internet account if they don't encrypt too!

My tip... get as many features as you can today for your money, next week they will be essential, the following week they will be obsolete!

Have just bought a Mio P30. It would appear to meet all of my needs with letting me run whatever offroad or onroad maps i want.
