I just got hold of a SWB '86 MQ with the L28 and 5 speed trans. I can't get the idea out of my head building a V8 Patrol :D though. With the V8 I want to get rid of the 5 speed and use a TH700 auto. Is there any kit out there to mate the TH700 to the MQ tcase ? I've been through the bible and search function but have only seen it done with the stock manual trannys.

you could get an mq divorced transfer case and have a shaft to the TH700.

But, why not get a better trabsfer from another vehicle. something that reduction gears are available for. I'm thinking maybe 60 series cruiser.

you can get kits to mount the auto to mq transfercase.

marks adapters does them over here in aus.

but as said. if your going down that path put a different T case on the back. something that has the right offset for the rear diff but can have T case gears in it....

60 series is the perfect transfercase if your going down that path.

Hello all, Just new to the forum and everywhere I read that people don't like the divorced transfer cases. Can you tell me why as it seems like a great idea that you could mate almost any gearbox output shaft to it with a short jack shaft? Are they too light duty? Or are the ratios all wrong or what?

yep, you could mount it to a lot of things

but it is longer(when you include the shaft too) and you can't get reduction gears
