Setting Backlash

I seem to have excessive backlash in my rear diff and as it's a DD it's really annoying me.

How do I adjust it, I've done a search and didn't really get a good answer.

I imagine it's in the manual but I forget which site had the PDF manual, if someone can point in that direct I should be OK hopefully. It's too late for me to do any more searching.

Thanks

Greg

If there is too much backlash in teh diff, but the preload is ok, then its pretty simple.
Just remove teh two retaining clips from either side of the diff carrier that stop the adjusters from rotating. Then rotate the adjuster on the side furthest away from the crownwheel counter-clockwise 2 or 3 notches. Then move the other adjuster in clockwise the same amount of notches.
Continue doing this until youre backlash is correct. If you have a dial guage and stand its best to measure the amount of backlash with that, but if not you can do it by feel and get in the ballpark.
There might be a reason that youre backlash is out though if it is in youre diff, bearings could be worn, teeth surface could be shagged, etc...
