Hi everyone,

I am looking to pick your brains about clutches.
I need to replace mine and I am looking to use a heavy duty one. It has been suggested to me that the best clutch is the Toyota Genuine one ?

I am thinking that there has to be sone other alternative HD clutch that has been trialled and can be recommended.
I am looking to put it into a V6 forerunner '92. tow a trailer alot.

Thanks for the help

I'm very happy with my Daikin. It's a 2F clutch on a Chev flywheel. They have a heavy duty version but mines just the standard one. It handles the extra power and torque easily.

Daiken exedy 'Xtreme' or 'Safari Tuff', the toyota factory clutches are soft and barely adequate, they feel nice under the left foot but even from new you can smoke them up fairly easily.

even the 'standard' spec daiken clutches are excellent.

cheers

my PBR (11") was $270 including: clutch plate, pressure plate and thrust bearing.

although my brother bought the same clutch kit from the same place, about a month earlier for $330, and his friend (same clutch kit, same place) $300

toyota clutches are probably manufactured by daiken, but they are soft and even from new provide barely adequate clamping pressure so they feel nice, give smooth takeoff and are easy on the leg.

for $450 you get change from a safari tuff or Xtreme

My Daikin was $180, but that is trade. I think they retail for about $250.

There seems to a belief that only Toyota parts can take the hard stuff. In fact Toyota hardly manufacture anything at all and rely on sub contractors who build components to Toyotas specs.Toyota only design and put cars together. All the big name clutches are ok and if in doubt a reputable brake and clutch lining distibutor will give free advice on your needs.
