Get one thing fixed and another pops up!

I ran the rangie on petrol again today (it's duel fuel) and now it's leaking a good deal of petrol from the mixture adjuster under the air filter inlet on the carbs. I tightened the outer "bolt" but one carb kept leaking until I tightened the mixture screw fully closed. This obviously won't work, so how can I fix this leak myself? Sure I could take it to the mechanics but I'd like to do some more stuff myself and I'd rather not fork out $$$ if I don't have to!

You may have a leaking needle and seat.... Take the top off the offending carby (4 screws, and lift the whole piston assembly out), and turn the ignition on, and look down the guts of the carby. If the needle and seat are leaking, you should see fuel running out of the small orifice at the bottom of the carby. I'm assuming strombergs here.

Failing that, teflon tape on the mixture screw thread?

Sorry - forgot to mention they're Strommies but I'd imagine the same thing would apply?

I don't know, never had much of a look at SUs (which i think was the other carby option?). Not much with carbs full stop really, they never seem to do what I want.... maybe cause all the carbs I've ever dealt with have been fairly worn. Would love to get the twin Dellortos attached to my alfa sorted, but they need overhaul, and parts seem to be hard to find.... quad throttles and megasquirt it is.

You must have really old strommies.
If you are talking the large nuts under the bowl, there are O rings on both.
The o rings come as part of a rebuild kit.
If you have screwed the lower nut right up and it still runs, your needle and main jet are worn out, as this should lean the mixture to zero.
