Finally get my air con fixed next week. The guy said it needed a regas amongst some other electrical shite, but i reckon he could be tryin to pull somethin. How much should i expect to pay to get it re gased in a GQ?
Also, is there a way that i can check the level myself?
thanks allot

I think I paid about $80 for a regas. Mobile guy came around to the mechanic's workshop.
There should be a little glass plate to check the level somewhere.

Place on Algas street Slacks Creek, cant think of the name but he usually has an "Aircon Regas" sign out the front.

Around $70 $80 non tested - $80 $90 tested
Basicly $10 dearer than what it is to re-fill, test checks for leaks and they get fixed at the 2-3 places I went to.
Don't get it tested and it leaks you'll have to fork out again.

None of the places said anything about that to me, They simply said do you want it tested or not and gave a price for each it's only a $10 differance.
I guess some people who have a brand new car and figure it wouldn't be leaking wouldn't bother with a test.

why does it need gas if its not leaking?

It's an example, another example a better one I suppose.
Have an old 80's car you have to get the air con converted, if your've had it converted you wouldn't be expecting the gas to be leaking.
A test is simply them running a blue dye thru the system if you see blue dye, you have a leak. they fix it up before you get it back.
I went to a little guy that was super busy like 10+ cars waiting to get air con stuff done.
Another was rad or red raditors can't remember the name exactly but something like that they were a little bit dearer but have shops all over the place.

I can't believe that you can pay $45 dollars for a regas. It's either dodgy gas, not done legally or both. Being in the industry i can tell you that the bloke is not able to make money doing it legally at that price. i'm not talking about time and stuff either. To regas an average car would be costing him about 35 bucks just in gas and fees. He's not going to do the job and pay for a machine for 10 bucks.
There is such thing as too cheap.
It is illegal to regas a vehicle without finding and fixing a leak if the system is empty. If it's low on gas then it is illegal to regas without leak testing.

Most places around here are $125 for a regas since the new legslation came in.
I wouldn't say you got stung.
As a brief breakdown, A half decent R134a recovery, recycle, Vac and recharge station costs around 5 grand.
If done correctly you'll spend around 30 to 45 mins actually on the car.
At a cheap rate that's at least 30 bucks.
The gas will cost you around 35 bucks per car. You need to log every gram of gas you put in and take out of a car and the vehicle details so there's 5-10 mins of paper work involved.
$40 labour (if you're silly enough to be working on 60 bucks an hour)+
$35 gas
leaves 45 (If you're charging 120)
GST takes 11 bucks which leaves you 34 dollars to pay off you 5k machine and cover incidentals......
That's the reallity of it. If you get it done for 80 bucks (or less) Then somewhere they are cheating the system. It may be good for you as a consumer but it's not good for the industry as a whole.
That is all.
