Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all,

Have been using my aircon a fair bit lately however it has decided to stop working for whatever reason. I push the A/C button in on the dash and the blue light behind the switch turns on etc however no cold air comes on (as though the compressor is not engaging). Is it possible that a fuse etc is gone (if there is one) and if so, where do I find it and what does it look like.

Also, 1 of my manual locking hubs has decided to stay locked in the locked position where as the opposite side still freely moves from free to lock. Any ideas/quick fix ideas?

Locking hubs - don't drive with one locked and the other unlocked or your diff will probably start smoking. Lock the working one till you have time to fix the other. It won't do any harm on the road unless you engage 4wd. The wonky one probably just needs to be removed, cleaned, lubed and replaced. Not a difficult job.

As for AC there should be a fuse for the fan switch. Does the fan work? The fuse should be located in the fuse block and be labelled. There is probably also a fusible link or other fuse at or near the battery on the lead to the compressor relay which operates the compressor clutch. Does the clutch on the compressor engage when you turn the AC full on? If not try giving it a sharp tap but watch out for the fan belts!. If this does not free it check whether you are getting 12V at the lead to the clutch. If yes there is probably a problem with compressor or clutch. If 0 volts, check the fusible link, the various connections etc. If still no luck it could be a faulty compressor relay or low pressure switch on the receiver drier. The relay is located on my MQ just above the cooling unit in the cockpit but is hard to get at.

You really need a wiring diagram and workshop manual to proceed further than this. Cheers

it wont harm your transfer, but it was harm your diff, heating the oil in your swivel hubs higher than they were designed for

IN REGARDS TO THE FRONT HUB WITH BOTH HUBS IN THE UNLOCKED (FREE) POSITION ENGAGE THE TRANSFER CASE AND DRIVE IN REVERSE FOR A FEW METRES THEN DISENGAGE THE TRANSFER CASE . HOPEFULLY THIS SHOULD FREE IT FAILING THAT PULL IT APART.

is ur air con clutch not engaging or do u just have a gas leak?

compressors wont engage unless there is a certain amount of gas in the systemn (pressure). (was told this buy the guys that did my aircon last time)

Id say this is your problem.

I will get the gas levels tested this weekend to confirm this. I dont believe that the clutch is actually engaging but im checking up on this. I believe it may be a broken fuse (large green one under the bonnet).

As for the hubs, the problem is that i cant get the hub into the unlocked position. Its locked in the locked position where-as the other one moves freely.

a/c: you can check the fuse but could be anything

free wheeling hubs: undo the bolts and have a look if you cant see the problem take the other on off and look at that. if you still cant figure it out take it somewhere to get it fixed.

checked the gas levels and they are fine. Im now thinking a fuse under the bonnet. A large green rectangular block one. Can these be replaced?

No luck with getting to look at the hub yet. Will pull apart wednesday.

u should just try and run two jumpers off ur battery to check if ur electromagnet on your compressor is even working, as for the fuse check the continuity with a multimeter first or maybe make sure the wires on your compressor arent poorly connected to the loom
