Seem to have devoleped a knock like its catching on something in the steering when turing the wheels stationary......

I can't pin point it but I'm thinking steering gear...First I thought it was the TD big bore shock then I thought it was the spring resetting it self, it could have been the steering dampener.....all working fine.

No noise when driving, no problem with steering, just this knock which feels like its coming from the chassis when you turn the wheel, like its catching on something.

I was going to pull apart the steering gear and have alook see, but I thought I would ask incase I missed something simple.

Cheers

Check the panhard bolt at the chassis end. Mine seemed tight but it still needed to be done up much tighter. It was doing exactly as you described.

Chassis panhard bolt needs to be very very tight. Scared the crap out of me the first time I saw one getting tightened. Forget the torque wrench just get a very big bar!

I recently had the same problem (or very similiar). I was getting a knock when turning near full lock to the left and the steering wounldn't want to centre on the way back (onl;y from turning left).

Ended up getting the steering box recond and now is all good :):):). Mine you $450 later (apparently thats a good price).

Thanks Lads, I'll get under there and have alook.

Point in mind, Ive been checking it when my wife has been turing the steering wheel for me so I've been able to get a good look, this is why its stumped me.

Winner!, and I still can't work it out why, but it's fixed!!! Hung off both like a monkey and maybe got half a turn at the most on the big bar....Fixed
