How to fit Barina/Swift seats into a Sierra

Thought I would do a quick "how to" for putting in Barina/Swift 199* seat into a sierra, the car is a LWB Maruti, so it may be a little different for other models. It is piss easy to do and cost $105 all up.

DRIVERS SIDE

1. Comparison of the two seat standard on right, they look fairly similar but the swift seat is a hell of alot more comfy

2. Remove recliner handle, and plastic cover off side of seat, and take the rails off both seats, throw away the swift ones, I kept the bolts off the swift seat and reused them. (You can see the Swift seat is alot better built with a full metal base)

3. Remove the sliding section of the right hand seat rail, to do the bend the tag down on the left hand side of the photo (you will understand when you have it in front of you) and remove the sliding section. you will need to make a bracket (gold coloured) to go from the seat rail to the recliner part, I used a scrap piece of 3-4mm steel. I used a weld bolt to attach this to the seat rail, a normal bolt didn't clear when put back together.

4. I drilled 2 holes, (marked with arrows) the top one is for the weld bolt holding the gold bracket (it hit the bottom of the seat, the lower hole is to get a nut in for when the rail is put on.

5. Put the seat rail back together, and bolt the rail onto the seat, I actually used the lower hole not the one pictured, using a magnet makes it much easier to get the nut in there.

6. The other side is really easy, I used the back hole in the seat rail and drilled one new hole in the front of the seat rail, both the mounting points on the seat on this side are captive nuts.

7. Put the plastic, cover back on and the recliner handle. Bolt back into car, it should fit perfectly unless you have stuffed it up.

Picture of passenger set in car. looks standard but its much nicer to sit on.

PASSENGER SIDE

The passenger side is almost identical, the only major difference is that the gold bracket pictured above is L shaped and easier to mount, I put it onto the side of the seat rail. and you need to make 2 bracket to extend the seat rails to make them a bit longer, I used some scrap 4mm steel, they are about 10-12cm long. I'll take a couple of pics if I pull the seat out again for some reason.

Hope this helps someone and I havn't wasted my time writing this :D

Disclaimer: I have no idea if what I have done is legal or safe, its just the way I did it and it seems to work.

Cheers
Brendan
