3 Wheel Drive...? Help Or suggestions

Okay I give the info and would appreciate any ideas at this point as too what is broken or what is not working. This is not my Sierre its my mates
Sierra 92 model
My mate has a Sierra with a Ezy locker rear and a welded front. On his last outing he got stuck in some ruts and lost drive to the front drivers side wheel and no longer has Four wheel drive as such. We jacked the whole car up and took the hub of and checked the shaft and there is no damage there on the outer spline and the hub is locking and locking back in. Now we put the Sierra in Four wheel drive and put it in gear with the front unlocked. we then locked the front passenger side and the wheel started spinning, we then locked in the drivers side and it started spinning as well. we unlocked the other side and the wheel that was not working still spun. We then unlocked the hub and it stops spinning. Thus indicating that it should all be working. We have also locked both wheels in and spun the wheel on one side and it has spun the other wheel the same way. I have tried to put resistance on the hub to stop it but I was not able to stop it. But we went out again on a trip to see if it might have just needed a fiddle but once put up a sandy hill in Low 4WD only 3 wheels are driving and the drivers side front is not working again.
So could this be the axle shaft CV busted?
Or could it be something in the middle to do with the diff...?
This bit here in the picture...?
