Hotting up turbo diesels

Assuming I own a 2nd gen 2L Yota turbo diesel.....
Its an import motor, how much boost does it run?
How much can it be wound up with minor mods?
How much hassel it is to run a boost switch with say 6 psi and 12 psi....meaning it would be tuned for one of those pressures, but without a computer to control fuel, how does one up the ante on the pump?
Anymore tips?
I know a fair bit about petrol turbo's (used to work at Nizpro) but diesels...nup.

6 - 8psi standard boost, 10 - 11 without too much drama but the stock turbocharger is not much good for anything higher, even with wastegate actualtor disconnected you'll only see about 14psi peak boost. fuelling is enriched by the boost compensator on the fuel pump up to a point, but leaning out is not a problem for diesels so you just tune it for max allowable EGT on your low boost setting, then when you crank in the extra boost with your switch you'll get some more power and EGT's will actually go down a bit.
intercooling is good value on these motors, they run HOT and are very hard on their oil. if you want to spend big they also go a whole heap better with a better turbocharger but that can be a bit hit and miss unless you can find someone who's done it or knows what they're doing to get it right.
cheers

Thanks for that....
I was thinking about going a water to air intercooler from an old subi.
Sure I could go an air to air but....I need good air flow which is hard with a bullbar and I dont want it to get exposed. Mud and shit wold get in it and it would be useless at low speed.
Could you please explain the EGT to me, I dont really understand what you mean.
Thanks!

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature, it's the diesel analogue of EGO in a petrol, its the way you tell if a diesel is running a 'correct' air/fuel ratio. too much fuel = too hot = melted bits like piston crowns or valve seats or craked head :)
have a search on the net, there's plenty of detailed sites out there. I can go into more detail if you want.
cheers
