Engine Options for GQ TD42 in Bris

Hi,

I have a TD42 in a Safari and it is blowing a fair amount of smoke. Has just come back from 10,000k trip to NQ for 2 months. Speedo says it has done 120k (bought from importer cough cough) and I had it fully serviced when we got it. Also the auto is good and has had a shift kit installed and seems strong. I would like to keep this there, or at least some sort of auto.

My dad is hell bent on getting a different engine into it, without even really gewtting it checked out. I don't mind if he's going to pay, but it seems a bit of a waste. Had this issue initially:

Can anyone recommend a place where we can take it to near work (Slacks Creek) that can evaluate the compression etc of the engine?

If he goes ahead with the engine change, can anyone tell me an approx price for these options:
s/h TD42 turbo ex gu
s/h v8 turbo diesel (options - recommendations?)

Thanks

Andrew

the pre 94 motors are stronger than the gu motors

id just rebuild what u have and throw a nice turbo setup on it

try highway diesel at coopers plains they should be able to look at it or put u onto someone who can

they did wonders with my pump n injectors

For a place to take it too in slacks creek. I would recomend 'On Track' on moss st. they will be able to help you out.

try diesel australia (i think thats their name) they r right next to vintons tree services where i use to work. the mechanic there would go next door when he needed parts or advice when rebuilding the chipper motors etc.

One thing if you rebuild it and the pistons need replacing then there goes your pre 94 stronger motor.

The v8 Diesel is going to cost $12 000 plus supply and fit and a Turbo GU motor $6000 to $7000 and should be a straight fit.

Rebuilding old motor and adding turbo will cost $10 000 plus.

cris is right, but for the $10k you will get a better engine.

just a note though, my GU was recently stripped and put back togther and all the internals we pulled out (top end only) matched a GU turbo engine. This was a N/A engine previously now turboed :D

what about the stronger crank and the oil squirters?
do they fall out when u get new pistons?

and 10k to rebuild and turbo??. ive priced heaps of shops in bris for when mine finally goes, between 4 and 5k is the norm so that equals 5 or 6 for a turbo

for 10k you would have modded pump new injectors head work cam turbo kit intercooler etc and you would kno its all new and built right
and it would haul ass
