Hi All,

Well I finally purchased a 4WD, albeit an '03 Navara Dual Cab V6 3.3 ST-R (boy that's a mouthfull) which I use for mild recreation and to haul my dirtbike. Dirtbikes are currently my greatest passion, but it's a sport I can't get the girlfriend involved with. So, with a 4WD, I can take her along to some of the magic spots that I get to see when on two wheels. By the way I live in Melbourne.

I really like the Navara and over the next 2 years hope to improve it over stock. Some of you guys have awesome rigs !!! The following mods are what I hope to do if money (and/or girlfriend) permits:-

- Raise the sucker and fit bigger fatter tyres
- Install a supercharger (there's just gotta be more poke in there !!)
- Diff locks
- Dual battery conversion (assuming there is room after blower is installed :-))
- Others that I haven't thought of yet

once you start modifying your 4b you cant stop....over time you'll end up selling the bikes, furniture ,missus etc to help pay for your habit.

there's only one thing to do....................

I did a lot of modifications on a D21 Pathfinder which is pretty similar to your D22 model navara.

From my own experience with mods on it, I wouldn't go anywhere near suspension lift for a navara as all of them can cause problems.

1. Using longer upper control arms to achieve a 2-3" lift put a lot of stress on the steering tie rods and in conjunction with bigger tires will wear out the centre link quickly. This mod also causes unfavourable operating angles for the front axle CV shafts which results in damaged CV boots.

2. Lift kits (Rancho, Super Lift,..) which actually lower the lower cotrol arms and the diff seem also cause a lot of problems for hard core 4wd usage.

I finally ended buying a GQ did it up for off road work and my wife uses the Pathfinder as a shopping trolley now.

Absolute FROG-SHIT!

Yeah, CV boots wear out quicker but that's the price you pay for the added fun.

Lifts that drop the front diff; OK, they're no solid front end but seems to work OK for Hiluxes and if you think IFS can't be worked, go and watch Frank's (Bitsamissin) IFS "shopping trolley" keep up with some comp spec rigs.

Don't be put off your purchase mate, nothing wrong with being a bit different and I'm sure the missus will have a ball.

Steering components on a IFS HiLux are way stronger than the ones on the D21/22 Nissans.

The only point I wanted to make (out of my own experience) is that suspension modifications may result in incresed or excessive wear.

It also depends a lot of what the vehicle is used for.

I don't want to put anyone off their vehicle, but only describe my experience with that particular car.
