They have a Dana style diff. Gearing around the 3.9 to 3.5 but i dont beleive they are a Dana 44 or even a 30. Im not even sure they were made by Dana. Used to be a very popular swap in to Torana's as they were a similar width had disc brakes and were the same stud pattern.

Did you know ditchwitches have dana diffs. I don`t know if all models have the same diff but I know some come out with dana 44`s. Even know of one that now has detriot diff locks front and rear as he got sick n tied of it getting stuck all the time when trying to dig trenches.

Volvo dana's are actually a good conversion for holdens and fords as the track is pretty close, i have seen one fitted to an EH and think they have ford stud pattern.

the volvo diffs have early holden or torana stud pattern.

anymore info on this would be awsome

as i am looking to upgrade my Jeep XJ to get rid of the Dana 35,
i am looking into a Ford Explorer rear end with the Ford 8.8 diff,
but would rather get a Dana 44

so if anyone knows the correct stud pattern and axel width that would be awsome

what is it with Volvos? Race car mate is always robbing bits off them, eg., front 4 pot calpiers and rotors allegedly fit lots of European Fords, and improve stoping power heaps...

... and other issue is that with Volvo parts, your car will want to run ove motorcycles..

I used to have an old volvo and a guy in one of the volvo car club had a volvo rally car that had an air locker from the front of a wrangler supposedly.

A golf buggy I tipped on it's side (while looking for my golf ball in the very very rough) had the tinniest Dana diff in it .. the tag said it was a Dana 21 or 22 ..

If your after a 44 Some Rodeo's have em in the rear i believe (made under licence)

Sounds like the same diff the willys jeep had.

Series 3 LWB Land Rovers have Dana 60 copies in the rear.

Just get a nine inch...... :D

Tougher than all, HUUUUUUUUUGE choice of ratios, LSD, Lockers, mini spool, full spool, anything is possible.....
You can even get an alloy housing if you want to save weight

i have given the 9" a bit of thought

Dana 60 would give the 9 inch a run for all the features you just mention any day, and you dont get the very low hung pinion hight with the dana. Every advantage you listed for the 9 inch is just as available, if not more so, for dana diffs.

Layto....

For the exploder strenghth of a d60 or 9inch would never really be tested so it;s a non issue. The 9 inch has two beaings supporting the pinion at the crownwheel end as well as a thicker crownwheel and much more tooth contact between the pinion and crownwheel. Making the gearset incredibly strong.

You can get any number of lockers for the 9 inch .. but the 8.8 should allow you to keep your 5 on 4.5 or whatever it is stud pattern as well as nice uni joint and offroad friendly driveshaft angles.

if you look at a one from something like an XF ghia with the LSD no reason the LSD could not be shimmed up a bit ..
