Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all

Love my gu i just bought. I have a question though about driving it and rev ranges.

I had to help my sister in law move today and i noticed whe i was towing a trailer and taking off on an incline that the she seemed to get bogged down in the low revs. once the revs cranked along at bit she powered on as you would expect it.

Is this normal for a TD? or is it how i am driving it? This is my first TD so not sure what is the best way to drive it.

It seems like it does it only under load, however i don't think i am giving it enough and so gets bogged down between 1000 & 2000.

Just give er some numbers when you start off.I know what you mean about the bogging down on takeoff.Its normal with mine.

I reckon mine loves to have a load on the back.When I have a shitload of firewood or somethin on the back the she seems to hum along.Engine sounds happy.

It's just because it hasn't come on boost fully yet. Mine sings from about 1700rpm+

so nothing to worry about

Most people who haven't had a great background with diesel engines tend to use way too little in the way of revs. You should aim to be driving within the torque band, from about 1800 up to 3800-4200, and starting off you should be looking to achieve complete lift off on the clutch in the top 1/3rd of that range. Drive in that torque range, and use the gears to give you the ground speed you want, rather than the other way around.

BTW, larger tyres will make the lower end of the torque band pretty much useless unless you change gear ratio's somehow, so you might need to start a little higher up in the band to get things working and up to speed.
